Seriously though, I can't remember a time where our class has been this close to wrapped up this early. It is still August people.
This is the modern recruiting landscape. Many of the top programs are almost done.
The problem AU fans are seeing is that there aren't a lot of top prospects we still seem to be in good shape for.
I don't think we would be considered the leaders for any top prospects (guys like Ivey, Holland, Slayton, Patterson) left on our board.
Like I said earlier, hopefully another great season can get a couple of those guys on board otherwise it's going to be limping home kind of finish.

Coates
While it is likely he probably goes Pro, it is not guaranteed.
McGriff and Smith are both being recruited as WR's. They are athletes on recruiting sites.
We also will still have Truitt, Davis, Walker, Stevens, Louis, Denson, and Burton coming back at a minimum.

Well, we have a QB with a bum arm. A school needs to bring in at least one quality QB in every class.
quote:It is? Do you how scholarship numbers work?
LB is a position of need.
Cass, Frost, Swain, Flowers, Mitchell, Toney, Harding, Williams, & Davis. That is 9 scholarship players, none of which are seniors, for 2 on the field spots. McBryde & Williams make 11. Assuming Williams flips (which I still find unlikely), it just means we go hard after our next top target. It still isn't a "position of need."
quote:HS DT and this is the only thing missing so far in this class.
DL is a position of need and we aren't doing well there.
quote:Do you feel every position on defense is a "big position of need"? We signed 5 secondary players last year that have yet to take a snap.
DB is a big position of need
SRs: Reed, Mincy, Whitehead, King, Therezie
JRs: Garrett, Jones, Holsey, Moncrief
SOs: TJ Davis, Melton, Ford, Alexander
FR: Ruffin, Bessent, Roberts, Boston
Commits: Colbert, Bridges, Atkinson, Sullivan, Westry
We lose Bridges and then move on. He won't break this class.
quote:UF offered the same way we did. You can say a lot of shite about Muschamp as a HC, but his defenses aren't one of them.
Westry could be considered another.

Apparently you don't understand how college football works. You see......these guys we are bringing in, for the most part, won't have a big impact on next season...one or two may. These guys we are bringing in are guys we are counting on two/three years from now. How do we look at LB in two years? How do we look a DL in two years? How do we look at DB in two years? Answer......we need help there.

Pretty good.

Everyone agrees we need help here.

Assuming we keep who we have, We could use one more in this class, which everyone has pretty much agreed on, but it wouldn't not be the end of the world if we don't.

Disagree, Williams plays in a tougher league and is higher ranked. His size is elite too. I don't want to lose him, especially on the notion that we could trade him for Holland. Who knows what Holland is doing
I don't see the explosiveness at all on Williams videos that you see on McBryde's. Nowhere close really. Their 40 times may be similar but McBryde's quick twitch is absolutely on another level to Williams.

I didn't know it was panic time already, it came so early this year

We loose Quille, Coates, Bray and Ray at WR. The only 2 WR's we've signed are both athletes.
First of all we don't lose Ray. He's a JR. Second, it's not a guarantee Coates goes.
Here's our WR's next year:
Smith (who I think will be really good)
Denson
Louis
Ray
Stevens
Truitt
Walker
Burton
Could that be a better group? Yeah if probably like 1-2 more physical guys in there but it's not a need.

Tre Williams 5*
Javy Mitchell 4*
Cam Toney 4*
Deshaun Davis 4*
Harding 3*
Williams and McBryde coming in and possibly Holland.

DL in two years?
No one will argue this is a need.

DB in two years
Corner:
Bridges (committed)
TJ Davis
Kam Melton
Nick Ruffin
Bessent
Safety:
Markell Boston
Tray Matthews
Stephen Roberts (probably switch to Corner if we need him)
Rudy Ford
Colbert (committed)
Chris Westry (committed)
All but DL looks pretty good to me especially since we have to include the '16 class in there

quote:Well lets see here... I gave you the names...
How do we look at LB in two years?
We lose 4 total players... 3 of which will have had played significant minutes.
Now we add in Toney, Williams, & Davis... all of which have yet to play a snap... Add in Mitchell & Harding who have played very little... plus McBryde...
Wow, you can make a whole 3-deep at LB in two years not counting the 2016 class!!!! REALLY hurting on numbers here.
quote:Already said we need HS DT in this class.
How do we look at DL in two years?
quote:Think I already covered this...
How do we look at DB in two years?
quote:14 players to fill 5 spots. Almost a 3-deep. And that's not including the 2016 members.
SRs: TJ Davis, Melton, Ford, Alexander, Bridges
JRs: Ruffin, Bessent, Roberts, Boston, Matthews
Sos: Colbert, Atkinson, Sullivan, Westry
Just to add to this, when the season opened up in 2013, we had a total of 14 scholarship players in the secondary. One of which was a RB in HS the year prior. And one of which was in the QB battle at the beginning of fall camp.
quote:Looks like you need help with some research.
Answer......we need help there.

We've missed on our top targets.

You are assuming every single player pans out and stays injury free. That never happens. You are also assuming none of these players leave early for the NFL. Realistically, these kids we sign this year will not have an impact for three years. Again, some true freshmen make an impact, but they are few and far between.

I had to run outside for a few minutes to make sure the sky wasn't falling.
It's not. Just an FYI.

quote:You do realize we only have 85 scholarships we can give out during a season, correct? For 22 spots? You can't load up on every single position just because attrition or NFL may happen or may not. FFS you can't be serious right now. Didn't provide any help their FR years. Good call.

So last season, out of 23 players signed, two true freshmen made an impact?
ETA: JJ had little impact on the outcome of the season. He played against a team that Tub could have been our QB.

That's all part of the game. This staff has done a really good job of getting depth across the board. The only spot we need to do a little better for the near future is DT.
Again, we've got 6 months to NSD. If we're looking the same at that point as we are now, then you can worry, but we have a whole season to play out, which can and will have an affect on some of these kids, both uncommitted and committed.
