Damn I hope we get to a point where players the caliber of Evans aren't an automatic take. Seems ridiculous to me though.
Why do you say that? So far he has proven to be one of the best cover OLBs in this class.

fwiw, Keith Niebhur was the one that posted that he didn't show up on AUC. He said later that he didn't say whether the visit had been rescheduled or not. I'm not saying what you're saying isn't true, but I assume a guy like him would be aware of that kind of info.
And as I pointed out to him, he was busy covering Friday Night Lights at Florida and did so 48 straight hours with no sleep so it was understandable and no biggie that he missed the update from his 247 collegues at BOL.

That's part of his point. He's saying he hopes we get to the point that we have so many good options that we can choose not to take Evans

no one said exactly those words. But if you can't see that's what everyone was saying, then I can't help you.

Dude shut up. Not one person has stated we still don't have question marks at QB. We're all just excited about the change of pace the past two takes at QB has offered. Quit trying to spin what has been posted as overly optimistic. It's just a group of guys giving their input on how things are going to shake out. Considering we haven't seen our starting QB nor do we know who it is, nobody here is lame enough to pump unfounded sunshine. That just doesn't happen here.

He is saying that he hope that one day that our program is so good that we can afford to turn down great players. That we could have that luxury. Has nothing to do with Evans specifically.

Because if we're at the point where taking the best cover LB in the class isn't an automatic then we are doing some pretty damn good recruiting.

So throwing out Josh Freeman and Jamarcus Russell comparisons and saying our depth at QB right now is a good problem to have isn't being overly optimistic? Gotcha. I'm all for being excited about a change but I was just toning it down a little bit.

Yeah I see your point there. I stay away from comparing NFL players. I would rather they were better than either of the above.

I know what you're getting at. I thought you were referring to my points honestly. I agree, comparing them to NFL caliber qbs is a little unnecessary at this point. I'll take a Kellen Moore type all day everyday - solid game management and capable of making most of the throws. AU can recruit well enough to get playmakers in the slot and on D.

Thanks for all the responses guys but I differ from Saban here. With Auburn and Bama being 2 of the top 13 best programs historically I think you take every top in state recruit you can. There are some Damn good football players in Alabama. Saban not taking all the top in state players just makes our job of getting back up and being a force that much easier.

Apparently you don't get what a player projection is...it is just a projection based on the tools we know a player possesses, that aren't debatable. Johnson is 6'5+, very athletic, has an NFL caliber arm...all things that are facts. These things allow him to compare to a Josh Freeman from a skillet standpoint. This isn't saying Jeremy Johnson is taking Josh Freeman today and inserting him into Auburns starting 11 on offense.

Apparently I do but I get tired of every recruit we pick up being projected as some NFL guy. A very small percentage of college players actually make it to the NFL.

I like Jeremy Johnson but he is no Jamarcus Russell or Josh Freeman and probably won't be in the future. Sorry you don't like my opinion. Get over it.

Yeah, the starting QB in the Army All-American Game has no chance to be successful

As someone who saw both Russell and Johnson in person against similar competition (namely my alma mater), I see a lot of similarities both physically and in how they play the position. But that in no means I think JJ is a 1st round talent.

ETA: at least not yet

Exactly, apparently if you see qualities of another QB who is in the NFL you are suggesting we have a NFL freshman QB. It's ludicrous to make the assumption and leap in thinking that is what posters are saying... just wow.
