He's a fricking WR coach, I don't understand it. But man can that guy recruit.

I'm not liking these comments. How can some of those guys not know him? He was at AU when we were recruiting them.

Some of them are as underwhelmed as us.

Auburn's third five-star commit, defensive end Carl Lawson of Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton, wasn't sure what to think about the hire.

"I don't have much information on him to tell you the truth," Lawson said.

Lawson, who plans to do some research on the coach, said he understood the need for Auburn to "get someone the fans are familiar with" but added, "at the same time it won't be good if it doesn't turn out good."

Asked how firm he was to the Tigers, Lawson replied, "I'm not gonna comment on that one."

Intelligent quote by Lawson. He and Foster are the lynchpins of this class.

If keeping the recruiting class together was a huge priority then there was never any doubt they would have to keep Trooper. The higher ups had to know that.

Yeah, I am sure they did. Personally, I do not see why we would even consider not keeping Trooper. He does a decent job with the receivers and is an outstanding recruiter. At multiple positions.

How would that be viewed as negative anyways?

I've never understood the hate for Trooper, especially from our own fans. And it got ridiculous this year when we tanked. We sucked, we looked for somebody to blame, everybody else was hating on Trooper for waving his towel and "NCAA sanctions" and then it seemed like our own fans got it line.

Trooper has never committed any major violations. But he doesn't look or act like a normal coach, so people hate on him.

He turned Darvin Adams into an All-SEC receiver, and he turned Blake into an All-SEC receiver. Not his fault our QBs wouldn't look for any other receivers when they dropped back to pass.

I'm in favor of keeping Trooper, but if Malzahn doesn't want him, he shouldn't stay. Nobody should stay if Malzahn doesn't want them.

Oh, and Foster's comments are funny. So if Trooper doesn't get retained and lands a job as the WR coach at Rice, Foster is going to follow him to Rice? Get real, Reuben.

Jayron Kearse tweeted

Glad coach Malzahn back at Auburn

Man if he commits back to Auburn it would be one of the most ridiculous recruiting stories without foulplay in awhile. The kid just can't make up his mind.

Also with his genetics I'll take him

Anyone listen to Jeremy Johnson on the radio this morning. Sounds like he is still strongly flirting with ole miss. Anyone get a different impression?

I didn't get that impression. I got the impression he likes Gus and has a good relationship with him from Gus recruiting him while previously at auburn and arky state, but that ole miss is just about neck and neck with us. Didn't he say he'd make a decision very close to signing day? Doesn't sound like a lock to me.
