Just saw an announcement on Twitter that the Mississippi Braves (AA) are relocating to Columbus,GA for the 2025 season.

With that move, all four primary minor league clubs will either be in or just outside the state.
AAA - Gwinnett
AA - Columbus
High A - Rome
A - North Augusta, SC

It was pretty much a fait accompli. It has been known for a few months that they were moving.

This will be a good move.

Columbus is starving for some good baseball instead of going to north Atlanta.

Also plenty of southeastern college talent around… Auburn, fsu, Atlanta, etc.

For damn sure. I'm trying to figure out how to get on the early buy for season tickets

Knowing my damn luck, AFLAC, Synovus, WC Bradley, Global Payments, et al will buy all the damn premium seating before it is ever offered to general public

I always liked the braves expanding their southeastern footprint by having teams in all the different states. It makes sense though. If I was still in Auburn, I would make trips over all the time.

Columbus is an hour and half drive to Atlanta. So incredibly selfish.

The attendance for games in Mississippi was terrible…

quote:

Today, attendance for the Mississippi Braves sits at 29th out of the 30 Double-A teams. The only time you’ll find anything resembling a sellout at Trustmark Park is when in-state rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State play in the annual Governor’s Cup.

I really thought better of Miss. I thought that it was a baseball-loving state. This proves me wrong. They couldn't keep a good Minor League team.

I like consolidating the Braves MiLB footprint but I'm still surprised.

Very nice stadium they have over there. I remember good attendance when they first moved there from Greenville.

I'm sure they'll drop the Braves nickname after the relocation.

And I wish we'd have the AAA team somewhere outside of GA. Not too far; still what would be historically considered Braves Country like Charlotte, Nashville, Durham, Jacksonville, Norfolk, etc...

Rehab assignments can be made at any of the other teams. Half of team's games are on the road, so I'd you have to make an emergency call up, there's still a good chance the player will have to fly from Salt Lake or wherever the Braves AAA team is playing to Atlanta or to Philadelphia, Miami, etc...

And it isn't like you can't get a direct flight to Atlanta from any city that is large enough to host a AAA team.

I know quite a few Braves fans from Virginia who grew up Braves fans prior to the Expos moving to DC and because of the Richmond Braves. I know we don't have TBS putting every game in front of a national audience any longer, but I'd like to see us expanding the regional footprint.

The expansion of that footprint is important since the next two MLB expansion candidates are likely Nashville and NC.

If it won't work in Pearl it won't work anywhere in Miss. Pearl is a redneck suburb of Jackson. It was supposed to be built on the fairgrounds in downtown Jackson but the mayor spent too much time in the details (like it should be built by black people) so Pearl came in and was ready to work.

I never knew that they wanted the stadium built at the Fairgrounds.

I used to go to Jackson for work regularly. Went to Jackson about a year ago for the first time in years and I couldn't believe how much worse it had gotten even in the last 6-7 years.

Is the old Jackson Mets/Generals stadium still there off of Lakeland?

Columbus isn't great, but it isn't a shithole like Macon or Jackson.

Jackson was ok in the 90s and earlier.

Smith-Wills stadium is still there. I believe Belhaven uses it.
