So you’re hoping to get the 6th best DL in the draft?
Hoping?
That’s gonna be your 1st round draft pick?
Yea good move.
Please trade up for him too.
So what's your suggestion, oh wise one? Grossly overpay for someone in free agency? Payne is going to be a beast in the NFL

My point is I wouldn’t want to take the 6th best player at a position in the first round.
But maybe the guy you want is that good.
I’d rather take the best player available.

You are fricking retarded. The 6th best DL could very well be the best player available at the time.

In this DL class, it makes perfect sense. Whether it's Payne, Bryan, or Hurst, they're all worthy of a first round pick.

Sure, everyone would love to be in that scenario but Atlanta and NO are picking late in the draft (which is a good thing) so you take what fits your team the best then.
Why would ATL take a RB (lets say Chubb or Guice is there) over the 4th best DT?! BPA does not always equate unless EVERY one of your players is on the Pro-Bowl and you can afford to just fill in wherever.

Well at least you make sense.
And yes it is silly to overpay for FA’s. Saints have made horrible decisions in the past.
We’ve also made terrible decisions by reaching and the dreaded trading up scenario.
There are 22 starting positions. 4 QB’s will go ,so that leaves 18 players.
Minus the DL picks (let’s say four) that leaves only 14 players none QB or DL drafted before your pick.
I find it hard to believe that the #6 DL is the best player available when you pick.
If you say he is the fourth best, maybe?
I think it’s still a reach.
If my math is correct there could be a few #1 and several #2 players available at their respective positions left.

Stop the presses!!!!
Local newspaper has their latest mock draft with the Saints taking Payne at 27 in the first round.

lol....if Payne is availabe then the Falcons are taking him. No way in hell he drops to the Saints. Nice try.

Honestly....I think the Saints are reaching big time if we take a DL or TE at 27.
That’s what the “experts are saying we are going to do.
I don’t think we take either.

Sure. But let's say the Saints are at #27 and on their board they have the #2 Center left. Saints aren't gonna take a Center when they have Unger, at least not in the 1st round. That'd be dumb as shite.
So on that note, please take the #2 Center.

Saints could take an OL that can play guard/center.
What if there’s a #2 CB or LB or Safety?
My point is, first round pick should be BPA.
If you think the #4-6 DT is the BPA then you should take him.
Reaching in the first round for position of need is a huge mistake.
Saints have been aggressive in FA (have gotten better at it, not going after high priced big names, but value players that add quality depth and maybe a starter or two) so they can draft BPA.
I think it’s a good approach since the draft is a crapshoot anyway.

Here’s to hoping you take Payne and he turns out to be underwhelming like some other Bama DL’s.
That’s taking two steps backwards.
Saints already have a new starting MLB, Nickelback, and TE, before we draft one player.
We are already a better team than last year.
How are y’all doing so far?

Happy for you Vinegar...
But what about the Falcons?
Looking like y’all could be in a battle for third place.
