It's the atmosphere. It's got that big time spectator factor and it doesn't matter what age group you're in, or if you are high school, college or local... thousands of people are screaming for the runners. If you close your eyes for just a second, they're all screaming for you.

The Run Bentonville Half has a similar atmosphere at the end of the course.

Results

Women win their meet. Men finish 5th and get beat by Texas, who is in the same regional conference as them and ranked behind them. Okay, now it's time to start worrying. Boit is red-shirting? Finished second in the meet but ran unattached.

The women's program has been on fire in recent years. The clutch run to win a National title in the last event earlier this year was everything you want to see from a squad.

The men have been... well.

Could the women's coach just take over both teams?

I am in full support of combining squads. However, Harter had about a decade dry spell between championships. Now part of that is because the women's squad has been snake bit, plagued with injuries and freak accidents the last three years. Just be careful what you wish for.

The men have no 5th runner right now if Boit isn't competing with the team. I think the difference between 4-5 without Boit running for points is too much to overcome. Number 4 finished 27th and number 5 finished at 100. Not going to win many meets with a gap like that.

Bucknam must have an awesome reason to not run Boit or maybe it's just a mistake that he's on the UARK active roster site. Either way, it's roster mismanagement if you're not running your star on the roster but letting him run the meet (he finished second behind Griffith who has no eligibility left). Or if it is a mistake on the site, there is no excuse for a 70 spot gap on the 4-5.Sigh.

OP updated. Women are

Men had a chance to move up a but I think running Boit unattached prevented that. We'll never know now and I'm still curious why Boit didn't run with the team but competed anyway. Oh well, eh?

OP Updated. Chad has lost control of the men's cross country team. Lot of roster mismanagement. But the Ladybacks!

I have my fingers crossed for a strong showing from the women as they pursue a national title.

The men... to borrow a line from all time great Blazing Saddles "What in the wide, wide, world of sports is a goin' on here!?"

I blame it on the coach but it appears absolutely no one in the administration does.

It’s like Bucknam is trying to play the underdog role not realizing that even if he runs his top guys, they’re still underdogs. SMDH. I think he’s trying to pull a fast one on HY. Let’s see if ole Hunter is paying attention.

Regionals are this morning OP updated. Women will dominate this meet.

From the rankings...

Arkansas remained the No. 1 team for a third consecutive week, receiving 10 first-place votes. The Razorbacks won their seventh-straight SEC Cross Country title with 21 points by placing four runners in the top-5, led by a 1-2 punch by SEC Champion Katie Izzo and SEC Runner-Up Taylor Werner.

Women win with a perfect score of 15 and the race isn’t even over yet.

That’s nuts. Rare to see that happen at this level.

Yeah, this is their team of destiny. 5 seniors all running within 18 seconds of each other; top 4 could have crossed the finish holding hands.

Taylor Werner received the South Central Region Conference Athlete of the Year award and Lance Harter received the CotY award for SCRC as well.
