How would you guys feel if Reggie Perry hadn't been bought away from us?
Posted on 4/8/19 at 8:53 pm to cubsfan5150
Mike would probably still be our coach

Coaches get the money from the PTB... Ours don't pay like Adidas

This is the crux of the issue here. I appreciate the hire, but it's a bittersweet ending to all I've ever known as a Razorback basketball fan. Wish he could have got another chance. And I'll probably always feel that way.
I hope he goes somewhere else and wins big.
ETA: It wasn't just Reggie Perry, either. You could make this same thread for Malik Monk and no telling who else we didn't even hear about. Mike does shite the right way. And wins.

Would we have had a few more wins and made the tournament with Perry?

I said it the way I meant to say it, but thanks.
I am beyond pumped about how this team looks to fare moving forward, but I will always have fond memories of Anderson and I assure you there are going to be loads of fans who feel the same way 10, 20 years from now. Mike Anderson gave 25 years to this program and did it with class every single day.
Again, beyond stoked about MuscleMan, but "pace and space" is quite a bit different than "40 Minutes" of anything.

Agreed and the hardest thing with Mike gone is it is finally closure on the Nolan era and 40 minutes of hell style that many of us grew up on.
That said, Perry or not, the game has evolved and moved on from that style of play. It was always inevitable that we would have to move to a style that better embraced advance statistics, and we couldn't have picked many coaches better to install it than musselman, imo.

I agree. I have to admit that I'm not a fan of throwing up so many 3s. I guess the game was just different.
That being said, Arkansas has never been hesitant to throw it up, but with the advent of these advanced metrics apparently it is actually prudent to throw it up even more!
Holy smokes.

You guys realize that all the coaches in this search rely many of the same elements as Mike? Many of the same things Mike was mocked about?
The God-Coach Beard charts deflections, relies on the 3 offensively, little movement on offense, poor spacing on offense, no back to basket post player, giving up layups, etc.
Musselman emphasizes tempo, the three, traps, etc.
All the coaches who were mentioned in the search are also big on switching screens...

This is breaking news to me, Dale.
Are you telling me that our new coach also coaches how to trap a ball handler?
Holy shite this changes everything.

Muss' and Mike's philosophies are closer than any one who wanted Mike gone will admit, if they are aware.
Both are big on "positionless" teams, G's and F's, both take risks defensively, both value 3s, both value athleticism over "basketball IQ" (or slow and unathletic as is more accurate).
Muss is more in tune with social media and the AAU game (feeding coaches/handlers egos). He is largely unproven as a recruiter, but every candidate shared this in common. Which is kinda odd considering Mike's recruiting was the #1 gripe amongst the angst.
The current roster fits Muss best of what was available for hire, even "needing" another big next season.

Yep. He's a great fit for our situation. Yurachek nailed it.

100 percent what got him fired
Talk all the shite that you want, but the dude can coach.
People give him shite about "not developing Gafford", but Gafford didn't come here as a first rd pick did he?

Roster management in general pretty much did him in.
Also, there's some bad blood there from before and that didn't help. Politicking played a role.

Didn’t we get Mason Jones because Perry flipped, or was that because Hall transferred? Would like to have him but Jones turned out to be a pretty solid replacement too and we get him for more than one year if Perry stays in the draft.

No sweet 16 in 8 years, that's what did Mike in.

Jones committed 3 days after Hall transferred.
