Willing to bet Briles saw the writing on the wall with Pittman

I'd bet Briles was lifting his skirt to any and all suitors because he realized Sam had legitimate deficiencies as a head coach and zero fire to fix them, and thus decided he had to bolt.

Pittman purportedly (and by his own admission) relied heavily on Odom when it came to in-game decision making. He lost that safety valve.

Something about how bad we are — and how terrible of a coaching job Sam has done — makes me think Briles saw the writing on the wall (and the writing said "shitshow").

"To be honest, I didn't know what to do, and I didn't make the decision fast enough. I didn't want to burn the timeout because I wasn't sure I was making the right decision."

- Head Coach Sam Pittman on electing to punt instead of sending Cam Little for a field goal.

He's making $6M a year, has been coaching football for 40 years, is in year 4 as a head coach, and is still making pee wee in-game mistakes.

Net net, he's a bad game day coach. Firing the worst OC in the country isn't going to fix that.

Lol

If he has any self awareness he’ll resign

Agreed but Briles hasn't been an avenging angel of awesomeness since leaving. The Horny Frogs played for a national title last season and are 4-3 this year.

We may have pulled all this off with smoke and mirrors.

I'm not sure if Sam literally didn't ask Odom what do during the game.

He isn't going to forfeit that buyout.

He hired him because he had head coaching experience.

Sam is nothing more than an interim coach.

Briles is above average. He's not near as good as Razorback fans seem to think he is.

Scoring Offense Through All Games

His offense was ranked 48th in scoring offense in 2021 and 35th in 2022. TCU is ranked 40th right now.

I hadn’t put together that Sam lost the head coaching experience of Barry Odom until I saw that point today on Facebook….that’s why he was so reluctant to fire him despite our terrible defense.

My question is, how has Sam coached D1 football for 40 years and still be so green as a head coach? He’s seen other coaches for 40 years….he has to have drawn some conclusions about practically every football situation in that time, right?

He along with other guys like recently Cristobal don't understand basic math and a HC has to be thinking situationally ahead a few plays with the time/score, what's needed and what decision he could need to make.

The game moves to fast that they can't figure out the best options quickly.

Being able to manage the in-game time/clock/timeouts situationally separates the great coaches from the average and below average ones.

I would assume, he just wanted more money, which he probably should have gotten.

Which is why I thought an established coach like Petrino could have saved him this year, and let him rebuild his rep, maybe been named coach in waiting while learning to actually recruit from Pittman.

I still believe it was Money, I don’t think he wanted another short stint, he wanted his next job to be a HC.

This won’t happen, but him and Hunter should have a conversation about golden handcuffs and health and resigning…

He has no ambition. If he wasn’t coaching football he’d been selling boats and living on the lake and down at the party cove every weekend. Going to keggers screaming class of 84.
