Arkansas' base defensive structure has flipped back-and-forth from a 4-3, to a 3-4 and back to a 4-3 over the past four seasons, but they will now utilize a 3-2-6 as they prepare for what will hopefully be the 2020 football season as the world is being rocked by the coronavirus pandemic

What had Mizzou been running under him both as coach and DC?

Biddy posted it as a 3-3-6 originally.

We have more safety tweeners than anything on the defensive roster imo. Play 4 of them counting the nickel instead of 2 true safeties to cover the field I guess.

Trying to get the closest 11 SEC level players on the field I suspect.

Yeah I would guess we’ll see Jacobs and Brown at CB, Brooks at nickel and Mason, Foucha and Catalon as the three safeties.

Should be interesting to see how we move things around if one of them gets hurt. Not big on McClellion but I’m sure he’ll factor in too.

Pool and Draper seem to be the two LBs. DL maybe Gerald, Marshall and Nichols? Soli and Williams don’t seem big enough for a 3-DL scheme.

Hopefully Bush comes back with his head screwed on straight. He’d be real nice to have on the field in this scheme.

So, essentially a 3-4.

That would be my guess. A 3-4 with two "safeties" playing close to the line of scrimmage but that can back off if needed.

Will it work? Probably not but we haven't had an effective defense in years. We could trot out a 5-2-4 or an older than dirt 6-1-4 and it would probably not make that much difference.

Get our best players on the field and hope for the best. We will have to recruit our way out of this hole.

Honestly we've probably recruited better at DB than anywhere else on the defense in the last 3-4 years so getting another one on the field at the expense of another LB makes sense.

Not sure how we're going to get any pressure on the QB or stop the run like this. We could put 12 DBs out there and it wouldn't matter if the QB had all day to throw.

We can't do either of those things right now. We will have to recruit our way out of this hole. No matter what system we run on defense we are going to be pretty bad.

Maybe, maybe, if we run the triple option and take the clock down to 3-4 seconds we might have a defense that doesn't seem miserable. We would still lose a ton of games though.

There is no easy answer. We just have to survive this and improve.

I really hope the average knuckle-head fan understands that we have to be all-in on Sam Pittman and trust he has a burning desire to fix this program. I know it's become a trope to say "five year rebuild," but it might take five or six years to become respectable (that is, winning eight games, not ten) again.

Who knows but the one thing I know for certain is he won't get that long to win 8 games.

I'm just preparing myself for the worst. It seems like no matter how low we've set the bar since 2013, we always find a way to outdo ourselves. We've gone beyond shooting ourself in the foot. We've shot ourselves everywhere but the head at this point.

All I know is we're all hopeful and patient right now, but when the losses start rolling in, people are going to be talking with their emotions and be saying ridiculous shite.

Yeah it's easy to say give him 6 years right now. But if we're 3-4 years into the Pittman era without a winning season, the vast majority will call for his head.

Lots of different types of blitzes.

With the spread and run/pass options 2 and 3 man fronts are becoming more standard for teams.

I like it.

we will know by year 3-4 what he’s made of. No rebuild takes 5 or 6 years. Hell just look what musselman was able to come in and get out of this basketball team that nobody had any hope for before the season. Good coaches find ways to put themselves in positions to win. It may not always pan out but their always there. I believe Pittman will be an immediate upgrade because he won’t get blown out by sun belt competition
