Neal Brown.

Someone on another board mentioned him, and he definitely checks a couple of boxes. Also, he's got SEC experience in both playing and coaching at Kentucky, as well as beating LSU in DV.

Not my first choice but someone you could definitely add to the up-and-comer list, which is the route we need to go.

There are no Lou Holtz's out there based on their record. We have to find the next one. I think those two guys could be the ones we need to hire and let develop into an elite coach.

Easier said than done, look at Basketball coaching changes.

Same problem will come to CFB with the playoffs, especially if the format is expanded. Established coaches will not be prone to moving around as much because they won't have to be in x conference to have a realistic shot of winning a NC, all they need is a realistic shot of making the playoffs.

So you are pretty much stuck with trying to find the next Nolan without out stumbling on the next Heath or Pelphrey by mistake, unless you are willing to pony up the cash for a coach with ties to you school who will leave his P5 job.

Neal Brown is troubling just because of the coaching tree he is from. Mumme, Leach, and Tony Franklin have all had goes in the SEC and none of them translated into huge success, Brown included. You can blame it on being Kentucky for Hal, Leach, and Brown, but Franklin was at Auburn and it was a dismal failure of a situation. Interestingly Tuberville effectively replaced Franklin with Brown at Texas Tech and it really didn't translate at a school where the players for the system were in place in a conference where the offense had excelled.

I'm really not sure why so many are enamored with this coaching tree right now, Mumme was way ahead of the SEC in the offensive curve at the time at Kentucky and with the help of cheating could only achieve 7-8 wins a year which we should all be aware isn't going to be good enough at Arkansas for a coach to hang around more than 5-6 seasons.

Skip Holtz seems to thrive on at the schools one notch below P5, but when he had a P5 level job at USF he was less than successful, Strong is actually starting to look desirable again taking over what Taggart left behind.

Charlie has no direct ties to the University but he does the state and will be in the conversation since Texas has problems beyond coaching his stint there won't be "held against him".

Eh, the bloom has come off that rose. Tulsa is 1-5 and just got absolutely murdered 62-28 by Tulane this weekend.

I couldn't see it either, unless we offered more money. I still don't see it happening.

You have Norvell on the list twice.

Also, I would add Willie Fritz to the list. If he keeps improving Tulane, I imagine he'll start getting looks for a bigger job.

Venables

Venables should be the top name on the coordinator list, and should be the first call we make if we decide to dip into the coordinator ranks. I'd prefer an offensive guy with head coaching experience, but he could at least shore up our defense and hopefully his a good OC.

I don't know that we have ever hired a coordinator. Crowe is the only one I can think of and he lasted all of 2 seasons and 1 game.

Arkansas historically has always had a pretty good track record of hiring proven head coaches. Outside of Nutt of course. He hadn't proven much at Boise State.

I think we hire a head coach. I also think the PTB want Gus and will do whatever it takes to get him here. That scares me a bit, because I think that hire does indeed split the fanbase. Though winning, would cure all of that quickly.

I do think Gus would win at Arkansas. We would have some mediocre years but be in the mix every 3 or so. Would love to see what he could do with Cole Kelly.

Also the auburn fanbase melt would be something to behold.
