Student Arrested After Threat Made to Fayetteville Schools

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark —

A Fayetteville High School student is waking up in the juvenile detention facility after being formally arrested for threats made to the school on Thursday (Feb 15).

Fayetteville schools were put on notice after a shooting threat was made to the high school.

Police say they were told about a student posting a threat on snapchat that read "Let's shoot the school up like they did in Florida."

Fayetteville investigators were looking into the matter late Thursday evening. 

Investigators tell 40/29 that they interviewed the student and their guardian overnight and because of the nature of and panic caused by the threat, the student was formally arrested.

Police say there is no credible threat to the Fayetteville school system.

Fayetteville schools public information officer Alan Wilbourn told 40/29 in an interview on Thursday, ahead of this incident, that they have several licensed police school resource officers in the district and practice active shooter drills throughout the year. 

Fayetteville school officials were not immediately available for comment on the incident. Stay with 40/29 News for the latest.
