He's gonna get the Kris Bryant treatment until he proves he can hit an off-speed pitch. Not looking good so far.

Supposedly the hand is bothering him still. Hopefully he can get it together

It's like he never even practiced hitting off speed after last year.
It was a huge hole in his plate approach, but for some reason I haven't seen any changes/adjustments.
Either the coaches aren't doing their jobs, or he is just stubborn. I assume the coaches brought it to his attention, and made him practice it.
So you would think he would start making adjustments, but not so far.

His hand doesn’t have anything to do with him pulling his entire body off of every breaking pitch.

Dude is fricking up his career this year.
Missing his hammock bone has nothing to do with his hitting.

I mean if you suck at something sometimes practicing it a million times won’t make you better. It’s just who you are.
I’m sure Shaq practiced free throws plenty but he just couldn’t shoot them well no matter how many he took.

He doesn’t though. He had stretches last year where he hit the ball through the middle and hit for a high average. It’s his approach to hitting. He flies his hips open trying to pull everything.. It is almost like he is trying to keep pace with Heston in HRs. I felt the same way last year.

A lot of truth in this.
Some guys struggle with pitch recognition and makes me wonder if he needs his eyes checked.
Others have no idea what it means to wait back on a ball and go with it to right field.

Have you ever played baseball other than T ball?
Any talking head can pick any player an AA, it doesn’t mean that you’re AA quality.
Case in point, Jacob the Zags pitcher was picked pre season AA. He was 7-3 last year. Jacob lost his first game this year and shut out by the Hogs. Our pitching allowed only two hits.
When Marty quits swinging for the fences he might pull his head out of his arse. I sit behind his family and believe you me, they are frustrated as frick.
I love the kid but this is his money year, he already has two errors and batting avg. is .211. Not quite AA numbers.
Oh and his hand is fine, via Dad Martin.

Yeah played all my life I was 3x all conference in high school actually.I don’t think I’m great but I would say I was above average in high school. Now I’m a high school baseball coach myself actually. Casey Martin is a really good fricking baseball player. Maybe he’s not a top 10 overall draft pick like some say, but then again maybe he is we’ve had what 3 series this year so far? Hell im not even for sure if that’s enough time to qualify someone for being in a slump. Defensively he had some struggles last year and as you said 2 errors this year but he’s still a phenomenal athlete who’s able to make plays on defense some guys can only dream of. The fact you called him a freshman sensation and nothing else is asinine and obtuse. Your either trolling or a verified dumbass. Maybe you should stop watching sports if you’ve become this senile old man

He isn’t wrong.
Martin is an error machine at SS and can’t hit a breaking ball to save his life. This season is starting off for him just as the entire season went a year ago.
He can’t recognize pitches. If he could, he just wouldn’t swing at any breaking ball. Every breaking ball he swings at is a mile out of the zone.

Maybe he doesn’t need to be ss then? I mean he was a pretty good defensive 3rd baseman I thought Or maybe wait a little longer than the first couple weekends of the season is all I’m saying.

The judgement on him by fans isn’t just going on two weeks of a new season.
Nesbit is the best fielding 3B that I can remember Arkansas having. No way do you move Martin there.

It seems Casey’s biggest issue might be he has read all the media reports about how good he is.
A common term for the subsequent behavior is “big leaguing it”.
It seems in his mind every play has to be sportscenter-worthy, and every at-bat something beyond ‘good’.
DVH probably struggles against putting a high draft prospect in check (Casey deserves some time down in the order), but if he doesn’t he runs the risk of this continuing into conference play and beyond.

Possibly, but we are talking about one full season a year ago and now the start to this season.
Martin led the team in K's last season with 79. Next closest on the team was Freshman Christian Franklin with 66.
Martin had the 7th worst on base percentage of the 9 regular starters last season. The only two worse were Freshman Nesbit and Freshman Franklin.
He also had the most errors on the team with 23. The next closest was Kenley with 7. His field pct. was .912 at shortstop. The next lowest on the team was Franklin in RF at .952.(I would have to search, but Martin may have well of been the worst fielding shortstop in the league last season).
Through two weeks of ball in this early season, Martin leads the team in K's, has the worst slugging pct. on the team, is next to last in BA, has committed the most errors, and has the worst field pct. on the team.
In all other things, we point to an anomaly. If he continues down this path, then his freshman season becomes the anomaly and he is who he has been the last two seasons.
I agree with your point later in your post...I do think Dave will have to move him down in the lineup because he is a liability right now in the 4 hole.
