Well Kiffin either preferred their job over ours because of pay, recruiting ability or both because he straight up chose them over us. Clearly they do something better than us according to the market we shop in.

I think their location certainly helps. They're closer to the other SEC states and recruiting areas. And they have had better seasons than we have even when we've beaten them. I would also speculate that they concentrate more of their NIL money to football than we do.

Yeah Kiffin has worked the portal really well. But I’d say some of our best players have come from the portal too.

Their style of offense is just better IMO. So many games under Pittman we try to stubbornly establish the run and end up settling for a FG too often while they’re aggressive and go for big plays - those extra four points would have won us so many games that we lost.

That man is knocking on the door of 70, so he'll probably be busy running for a congressional seat.

Miss state was a pile of dog shite before he got there and made them a consistent winning program. That's why.

Had no idea he was that old. I retract my previous statement. He'd only be good for a few years.

Partially, I want to hire him just to piss off the do gooders in our fanbase that don't give a flying frick about winning.

Eh, he made them from a bad program to a mediocre program. He was 6 games under .500 in the SEC at Miss State and had one top 15 finish in 9 years there (thanks Dak). Outsiders crowned him as an elite coach because he's scraping out 7-8 wins and 3-5 SEC records at a poverty program. He turned around, took over a new program, and ran them off a cliff.

Too Houston Nutt-ish for my blood.

Hell, Bill Snyder coached until almost 80.

I say go all in on Daddy Briles.

If we're picking outliers, I point you to Mike Leach.

Although this logic does keep Bill Belichick in play for us.

He was 33-39 in SEC play at Miss State. He does not recruit and he has been at two programs that have vastly more in state talent than Arkansas.

Miss State has always been a pile of dog shite. Minus Mullen's 2014 State team, he had a .500 record or worse in SEC play his entire tenure. That is not a consistent winning program coach.

Might as well just hire Jimmy Johnson then.

The amount of retreads some posters would be okay hiring is astonishing.

Herman? Hell no. I could give two rips about a Texas reject who believes he is the smartest person in the room.

Mullen? Scraps from Miss State and Florida? No thanks.

That's why I'm terrified of a new coaching search in general. Sam isn't it but there's no telling what direction it'll go. It's not like the PTB have been any better than your average poster lately.

Unlike some I guess, I trust Hunter to make a solid hire. He has a track record here at Arkansas of making a good hire for most all programs. Pittman would be the outlier, but I dont think he had much of a choice and his back was to the wall. Up until this single season though, Pittman had gotten the program out of the shitter.

The single worry I do have is that Hunter hired Herman at Houston.

If you don't, you are in big trouble. That's 90% of our problem this year. With our O line deficiencies, we don't have an adequate running game.
You can't be one dimensional and have good success.

To put these in order I would want...and how my call list would look as AD...

1. Cignetti
2. Elko
3. Traylor
4. Sumrall
5. Leipold

I guess that's kinda my point. We run the ball on 2nd and 13 when most teams would pass it, and we also run, run, run inside the redzone conservatively and end up settling for a field goal, even under Briles.

I don't really even mind being a run-first team but you just can't march all the way down the field with it and expect to score TDs every time these days. You have to be more aggressive. I think we've maybe thrown two deep shots to Broden or TeSlaa all year, and none to Sategna who is supposedly our fastest WR.

I'd say I trust Hunter, but I also trust those around him to muddy the water as much as humanly possible.

I do agree about Pittman, though. Looking purely at numbers and results, I wouldn't be so done with him if it weren't for how the team actually looked on the field this year. That's been the killer more than any binary win/loss result to me.

I just don't even have the energy to spare contemplating new hires anymore. I'm all out of emotions for football. Nothing would surprise me at this point, I don't think.
