No doubt. But it’s better than the half a year we got from enos. That’s my only point. If you wanna say enos was better the first time he was here than briles that’s fine I can get behind that.
Enos had 4 things go really wrong for him his second time here. He had changed up his system and formations and what used to work like a charm... wasn't working like a charm anymore.
His system was dependent on having, if not a dominant running game, than at least a decent running game to set up play action passes. We sure as hell didn't have that. The O-line was wretched, most of our good RBs were banged up, and when they were healthy they displayed an astounding ability to hit an opening and run straight at the nearest defender.
Enos, while he liked to throw deep, really lived on 5-10 yard type passes (we used to maul people with our TEs in that area) to move the chains and work a ball control style. Unfortunately KJ was iffy at best at those throws and downright horrible most of the time. Enos wouldn't change though.
And finally, his player management skills were terrible. By the second game of the season it was obvious that KJ actively hated him and that the rest of the offense was falling apart. Enos not only failed to turn that around, his comments and actions made things worse.
Briles, at least, knew what he had with KJ and could use smoke and mirrors to cover up the flaws. Enos couldn't be bothered to do that. It would have been fascinating to see Petrino coaching KJ because he would either finally get through to him... or we would have seen Jefferson riding the bench after the first in game tantrum and being informed he should look for another school at the end of the season.

Petrino will eat. The question is if the defense can stop them.

We ran some form of option up until the 80s correct? Doesn't seem all that crazy when you keep that in mind, along with their being more games played today

We must have watched two totally different teams last year.

Arkansas ran the flexbone under Hatfield in the 80s which required mobile quarterbacks.
Here is the rest of the SEC in comparison.

Tommy Hodson 9,115
Will Rogers 12,315
Stan White 8,016

We ran the option until Hatfield left in 89. A terrible time for Arkansas. We only averaged 9 wins a season or so and finished in the top 20 on a regular basis. Hatfield, however, was miserable in bowl games so... ten win season... lose your bowl game.
Thankfully Broyles ran him off and we got so bad we appreciated just making a bowl game later on. Who needs ten win seasons when you can sweat out managing 6 wins!

The crap show several teams have shown on offense makes me even more happy we got Bobby.

Just the lack of shooting ourselves in the foot was such a breath of fresh air.

When Arkansas joined the SEC, Broyles would brag about that big first check from the SEC.
He should been shown the door long before 2007.

Bud, you have swung back and forth on this thing. You ok?

I think it was you, who thought we were going to not win many at all? Still there?

I started to say pump the brakes, but after looking at the schedule...
I'm not as confident in next week as to get fully onboard, but if we leave Stillwater with a W there's a very good shot we're 5-0 with two conference wins looking at back to back home games coming up and a bye week to prepare for LSU.

I take full credit for any success we have this year. Usually I'm optimistic in my predictions and we don't come close to how many games I thought we would win. This year I went with the reverse jinx and predicted we would win two games. So far it is working!

You’re thinking of my political outlook.
I’ve tried to remain pretty mum as I’m sick of drinking kool aid.
Bobby P just poured a pine bluff mama’s best kool aid special down my gullet.
In all serious though, Thursday gave me some hope we can win 6 or 7 games.
Anything over that I will shave Pio’s initials in my chest hair.
Also, never forget Gundy is good for an early season WTF.

So, I just looked at the FB discord for the 1st time in a while.
RMS (supposed guru over there) just said that "Pittman will retire after the season regardless of the record, and the plan is to hire one of four. Odom, T Will, Lashley, or Trailor. If Odom or Twill are hire, BP will stay on as OC.
Uhhh Huhhh!

quote:1. His name is traylor and 2. Odom has already failed as a sec HC. 3. If those 4 are actually our first call as HC we need to burn our athletic program to the ground. Clearly we need to look to the art briles, lane kiffin tree. Lebby looks good, Lincoln Riley has always had better teams than we’ve had ( I know they’ve been terrible on defense but I’ll take a 9/10 win season however we get it), Kiffin is obviously successful, art was successful, Kendall isn’t bad no matter what Troyt thinks, reality says otherwise. Someone from that background is who we should actually go after. Or just hire BMFP
Odom, T Will, Lashley, or Trailor.

If we hire Odom to be our next HC I will dispose of all my hog shite forever
