Which means, reducing the risk of your decision.

Gus or an up and comer (Bird in the hand scenario)?

Again, which one reduces your risk?

to me, they are the same in the long run...

An up and comer who has the moxie to mix it up, and knows he is making a name for himself is going to go for it all. Gus is set in a system and requires a specific type of player, has been mediocre with QB's and well. I DONT LIKE HIM

so my opinion is definitely tainted.

Can you imagine being the one to make the decision? Definetly deserves the pay. No pressure.

FYI - I'm from Minnesota and they have gone with the up and comer for all sports (minus wrestling and hockey) and they always suck.

ETA: hockey

Your comment is - Bird in the hand. No guarantee a coach has moxie, has the drive to make a name for themselves.

You have sources, doesn't mean you know what works. I don't either.

ETA: I suck at quoting.

Yet we do, both of us. Just think.. We have seen 10 win seasons, we have seen 9 win seasons, we have seen sec west championships in our lifetimes... OR are you a young en?

What Bobby P did, worked, What Ken Hatfield did.. worked, to a much lesser extent, even what nutter did worked a bit.

We have a formula for success, albeit in a different sec atmosphere. But a good coach is a good coach period. He is out there somewhere.

This^^don't believe the coach has to have ties or match the culture stuff, just be a good coach.

I love how in your photo there is included the very reason why Gus wouldnt be as successful here as he is there.

They're right down the road from one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. Five star recruits grow on trees down there.

But who am I kidding? You've been explained this about 100 times and you act clueless about it anyways.

Personally I think nearly everyone who isn't a casual fan and wants Gus here is either not very intelligent, or has some personal interest at stake. An interest that they place above the program they claim to be a fan of.

It is 100% true that it is much, much more difficult to recruit here than it is at Auburn.

Does that explain why he was able to have success at stAte, too?

Does it also explain why his offenses at Tulsa were ranked 1st and 2nd in the country in terms of yards per game?

If you don't think that a coach who has won the SEC at another school can be successful at Arkansas, it literally does not matter who we hire. I mean look at Saban. He has all the recruiting advantages of the Bama program, and still doesn't go undefeated every year. I'm sure he would suck at Arkansas. Let's hire an unproven up and comer instead.

Oh cute, yet another Gus thread but this time titled risk averse.

Maybe you can make a few more just to get the same opinions from the same people.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Tulsa and Arkansas State are midmajor programs. None of their peers recruit 5 star players.

If we wanted to recruit like Tulsa we would have to turn DOWN talent. Meaning, you can find talent to fill a roster at Tulsa or in Jonesboro anywhere in the country.

So even there he was at least on a level playing field with his peers. Here he would be working behind his peers and I don't have any confidence that he could compete in this conference at Arkansas for a couple reasons. 1. He has the personality and charisma of a pine cone, and 2. He already underachieves with the talent he does have on an almost yearly basis.

And like others have said, I just don't like the guy either.

Eventually he is gonna wind up in trouble for being such a fricking weirdo and for doing shady shite. Mark my words. It'll happen. And I'd rather it not happen here.

According to BoarEd, Saban would fail here because he wouldn't be able to recruit like he did at Bama. We need a coach that only runs trick plays to overcome our terrible recruiting.

Nick Saban is the most successful coach in the country. Again an apples to oranges comparison and disingenuous to boot.

Hatfield had us ranked at the end of the season 4 out of 6 years, won the SWC back to back, and half of his seasons here we won 10 games.

He was lousy at bowl games though.

If that is working to a much lesser extent then may God smite us down with such a coach.

Well he's in a very fertile recruiting territory. I doubt he could have any success at Arkansas when he can't recruit here.
