Dylan Leach to pinch hit for Zack Gregory.
Far be it from me to second guess DVH…but that’s a questionable move.

In DVH we trust.
Let's win the next two games

I said this on another board, but our lineup at this point is basically Turner, Wallace, and a bunch of midweek all stars who keep their stats respectable with empty calories hits against the likes of UCA, UAPB, and A State.

I feel like it’s been 6 years since we’ve been able to hit lefties, hell it’s been about 4 or 5 since we’ve been able to even look average against one. If a team has a mid 80s lefty who hits his spots we will get shut down every time

I liked the lineup better last year.

And we couldn't get to Omaha

I bet this team will find a way to make it. The reason why is the pitching will be better than last year. The SEC records from last year to this year are identical but the Arkansas pitching is doing well this point in the season without a superhuman pitcher.

Gregory hits well under .200 against leftys. The questionable move was not doing it when we had 2nd and 3rd with no outs

Pitching will be better in post season too. Any teams with decent lefties will knock us out easily

Just taking another look at last night’s box score. - We gave up only 2 hits. Holy cow.

Yep. Aggies scored 2 unearned runs.
We had our chances offensively. We struck out 14 times. That hurts.

And those two hits came in the same inning (4th). Our pitchers were lights out for 8 innings.
The 4th inning when Wallace committed the error and Connor fell apart momentarily is what ultimately killed us. E-5, single, walk, single, walk is the sequence that plated 2 runs and ultimately was the difference for them.
What truly broke us was the 7th inning when we had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs down 1 and didn’t score anything. One sac fly would’ve tied it, and with Webb’s speed a seeing eye single would’ve likely scored two. But as per usual, our guys were swinging for the fences and hacking at junkball pitches that 7u coach pitch batters would’ve have swung at.
Lanzilli, Battles, Gregory, and Stovall had 4 of the worst at bats I’ve ever seen when they struck out in the 6th and 7th and stranded a combined 5 base runners in those two innings.
For all the shite we’ve given Hobbs, our pitching has been carrying us this year. Thompson is the one not pulling his weight with how terrible our approach at the plate has been this year.

I’ve said this before earlier in the season, but this team reminds me of the Yankees teams of the last few years.
Much heralded offensive lineup consisting of a bunch of sub- .300 hitters (who analytics will say are very good) who live and die by the long ball and keep their stats respectable by feasting on weak pitching against inferior opponents, which doesn’t translate well to the postseason.
Guys like Slavens, Moore, Leach, et al. are why I don’t worship at the alter of analytics. If a guy goes 3-5 with 5 RBI in a blowout of UCA and then 0-4 with 3 strikeouts against an SEC opponent, you can’t simply say oh well he’s a .300 hitter and an RBI machine. Analytics guys decry clutch as not being a real thing, which is complete bullshite. Case in point, analytics guys still try to claim that Joey Gallo is a great player, somehow disregarding the fact that he’s a .160 hitter with an astronomical strikeout rate.

Moore and Battles need to figure it out. They’ve been doing this too long to be weak links in the lineup.
