Losing Pallette was big, but even if we had him, you still have to have more than three pitchers that can go more than 1 inning to win in Omaha.

Told my kid the same thing this past week.

He was asking me who I thought would win the CWS and was taken aback when I said Vanderbilt and then doubly so when I added that I didn't think we'd make it to Omaha.

I told him I liked Vandy's chances because they had two stud starters in Rocker and Leiter and another really good starter, whereas our rotation was a crapshoot aside from Wick and our bullpen was a steaming pile of dogshit outside of Kopps.

Agree but it's obvious DVH/Hobbs knew of the pitching weaknesses that Kopps has covered all season long.

It was ride or die with him and not someone who can't get outs or throw strikes while the game was tied.

That sounds like a recruiting and development problem.

They can't just roll the ball to the mound and say get outs and don't give up runs.

Yeah, Slavens Franklin Wallace Goodheart were just absolutely awful.

And tanked hard there tail end of the season.

Pitiful at bats.

In 2018 we had Blaine Knight, Isaiah Campbell and Kasey Murphy.

Three seasons later we had Patrick Wicklander and literally no one else.

Not giving DVH a pass by any stretch, but Hobbs can GTFO.

Goodhart and Slavens just pissed me off damn near every at bat they had the last month of the season. Just hacking at shite every fricking time.

It's a bad approach problem that DVH hasn't solved

He needs more time to recruit out of the mess he inherited.

Good thing about this roster is it was young, no resets next year, just add and go forward.

Not shitting on the kid, but Slavens' numbers were a bit misleading and largely empty calories against OOC/weekday opponents. Can't remember off the top of my head, but want to say that the SECN telecast crew a few weeks ago said that all but 1 of his homers to that point had come in non-conference games.

DVH has a swing for the fences approach. It is what it is.

It continually bites us in the arse.

All good, we still play next year.

Yeah but if not him, then who?

DVH is paid to make these tough decisions, it's easy to throw out whatabouts after the fact.

I wasn't disagreeing with your point. I was relaying how badly our pitching has devolved in just a few short years.

NCST starter had damn near a 5 ERA and even the bullpen guys were well over 4.

I don't get the bats at all. And some of the guys falling off a cliff the last several weeks on serious skids.

Seems like Casey Martin syndrome all over again but for half the lineup.

Slavens hit 5 homers in SEC play and batted .284. Had 24 RBI’s which was 3rd on the team.

It was a fluke loss. I doubt any team has ever out scored an opponent by 17 and lost a series.

Which of the underclassmen are going pro? Franklin? Wick?

Our at bats were terrible at the worst time of year.

Losing a big pitcher didn't help either, but that wasn't the killer. It was the fact half our lineup couldn't hit the broadside of the barn with a gun to their head

Helluva run, but we would've gone 0-2 in Omaha. This team ran out of gas except a few players, and it takes a team to win it all

Like I said, it was a few weeks ago and I may have been misremembering the specific splits.

I'll give him a pass in the postseason because he was coming back from injury. Like others have mentioned, the tournament is a bad time to be shaking off the post-injury rust.

But he had Wick available and ready... Its possible that he wanted kopps to pitch to their SS and then they were going to pull him, but if that's the case, it obviously didn't work
