This is definitely an unpopular opinion but I wouldn’t mind losing a couple games on the end stretch to be humbled. Does the #1 seed ever win in Omaha?

The great thing about baseball is there is tomorrow. If Arkansas were to lose the series, we still have another weekend to go.
This team has proven more times than not that it is a mentally tough, grind it out squad. We have the toughest schedule in college baseball and we have been #1 most of the season and up to this point, haven’t lost a series all year.
Let that sink in...That’s not normal.

Nah I like to win the SEC and avoid a season ending collapse.
Being the SEC champion just sounds better when you make it to Omaha.
I think it is rare that the number one team wins it all. Baseball is very unpredictable and most of the time the number one teams are overrated. Remember UCLA was in that situation but lost to Michigan in the super regional?

This. There's a reason we hog fans can't have nice things. Everyone's uber negative perception of any team is a coping mechanism for years of disappointment, but the flip side is that it makes it almost impossible for many to truly enjoy teams like this.
Wiggins isn't "done", he'll continue to develop like many before him. I remember so many calling for us to "get rid of Campbell" early in 2018. Pitchers way more often than not develop under DVH.
Today's utcome was tough, but this has been a truly incredible season so far. Obviously I want it to end with a CWS title, but just looking back on this year its crazy how much fun its been. The best hog baseball team I've ever seen.

So if we drop the series tomorrow then do you think Tennessee deserves to take the top spot?
Posted on 5/15/21 at 8:29 pm to BennyAndTheInkJets
Also who knows how this ends up if Franklin's last hit simply bounces off the wall instead of over it and the pop-up Wiggins forced off the first batter in the 9th doesn't land in no-man's land. If only one of those things turns out differently it's likely a different outcome, especially that first batter in the 9th.

100%.
Feels like yesterday I made the trip to Arlington with no idea what to expect. Certainly didn’t expect 3-0 that weekend. When we did sweep Arlington, it certainly got my attention but it wasn’t SEC teams, and then also the thought of maybe those Big 12 teams aren’t as good as thought.
Well, fast forward to now...Those 3 teams are really good, and so are we.

This team has been fun.
But let's not get carried away. It's not just Hog fans getting carried away with expectations. In the baseball threads on the rant, I've seen so many fans predicting sweeps lately.
MSU fans were celebrating their SEC title midweek because they were penciling in a sweep over Mizzou and Bama.
Tennessee is legit this season. We should have all expected a fight this weekend. Hopefully we can sneak out tomorrow with another series win.

Continuous past disappointments will bring out the negativity and rightfully so. It is what hog fans are use to. So I don't blame them especially older fans who have seen it in person such as the 69 game. That game broke the spirit of hog fans and even Frank Broyles.
It is harder to enjoy being number one and the target on the back. Because this team will face opponents that treat these games as a super bowl.
Praise and criticism and even morso than praise comes with being number one. They will get it not from not just hog fans but outside media as well.
Hog fans are having fun on the train ride so far. But they know what lies a head and are used to that feeling of dread as the fun is a bout to end.
But maybe this team unlike the ones of the past will break this so called curse of the big moments that hog fans usually expect.

So I didn't need to look it up, You let us know thanks...

as I said on the rant... I am relatively new to Hog Baseball. This team is absolutely incredible. I want to win them and IT all of course.
But this was unexpected for me. I follow Hawgeye, Ultimate, others on here and their experience. It has been fun. I love coming along for the ride.

I absolutely do not understand this.
Anyone old enough who saw and remembers that 69 game with Texas, also saw the basketball team win a title and nearly go back to back. So I don’t buy it.
I wish fans stopped looking for excuses to worry. One foot off the cliff at all times for some reason.
This team has a chance to finish a season with 15 or less losses. To put that into perspective historically, the last Arkansas team to do that was 1990. It’s only happened 4 times in Arkansas baseball history since the schedule expanded in 1979.
This squad is also chasing its 3rd consecutive West title, as well as another overall SEC title.
Just be patient and let this baseball thing play out...

The 69 game loss was devastating to the football program. 30-50 million Americans tuned in and watched. Nixon was in attendance and for one game the eyes of America were watching in Fayetteville. We had the lead for most of the game and lost it in the end.
Frank Broyles blamed himself for the loss and went to the grave of ever watching a replay of that game. He went into the 70s a different coach and the results were mediocre or losing seasons. The stress of that loss finally made him quit in 76.
Yes the 94 title is great but it wasn't enough for fans to get over the 69 game. It was a soul crushing experience from family members and others who watched that I talked to. It changed the direction of the program from a powerhouse to a struggling program that couldn't find that type of success again.
The fans aren't worried, they just expect the worse to happen. They know the ride is fun but understand it won't last long.
It is a good season so far but stats and records mean nothing if they can't get into the CWS.

Win tomorrow and today doesn’t really matter,

And even with a loss, (Hopefully not) We still would have only lost one series all season and beaten every team / won every other series of everyone else in the top 25
It has been an incredible ride, and it isn't over by a long shot imho!
Posted on 5/16/21 at 8:18 am to Razorback Reverend
It would be nice to have a couple more sweeps to provide a cushion just in case we drop a series.
Posted on 5/16/21 at 8:25 am to Rzrbackguy
I had this series circled as it will determine the probable SEC champ.

I was there in '69 and '94. Also was on the front row next to the Hog dugout when Shaddy cost us a Natty.
Chances like those don't come around often and I think the reason for the angst among fans.
It's the struggle for relevance in the most powerful conference.
