We just played the best offensive team we’ve seen all season. I wouldn’t go off a Cliff because of this series. We still won.

We still have to face USCe and Tennessee at home.

Pitching still needs to step up before then IMO

I want to know why we didn't see Bolden.
obviously they were saving him for worst case but kopps was lights out those last 3 batters if he’s on like that no one will touch him I knew after the 2nd K we had the dub nobody is touching a pitcher who has off speed that nasty working that well

Yes we do and hopefully we don’t have to play 27 innings in 24 hours.

That’s a very big strain on a staff.

A big hope is for Trest, Bolden and Ramage to make strides in these midweek games. Being able to trust three more arms would mean the world to this team.

We are national title good now, but being able to count on those three would possibly make this staff dominant out of the pen.

as novice as I am concerning college baseball.... I think we are good to go, as long as we stay healthy, and don't have to play double headers following mid week matchups.

Amiright?

We really need to find a solid 4th starter. To make ANY noise in Omaha we need a 4th arm we can turn to for 4-5 innings. Wicklander has been solid for 3-4 weeks now so he is 1. Lockhart, while he had some issues today, he has been solid for 4-5 innings all season. So that’s 2. So Pallette, Noland, Vermillion, Bolden, or Ramage need to some how get consistent and fill the 3 & 4 spots.

Right now if for some reason we were to lose a regional game, we may be toast. If we were to have to go to the 3 game title series on short rest, it would be tough.

Best case scenario is Noland coming back from injury will fill a spot and Pallette gets his crap together. Pallette seems better in relief though. He seems tense as a starter and more loose coming out of the pen.

SEC Network had the balls to keep Vandy number 1 in their power rankings

I disagree. I think this roster is better suited to win in Omaha than say a team like vandy that relies exclusively on two arms. We’re capable of wining Friday 3-2 with kopps and Wiggins slamming the door shut or 18-14 gorilla ball in game 3.

I’d hate to face vandy in a super.

I don't see a Blaine Knight or Isaiah Campbell yet, and that troubles me heading into the post season

Maybe a couple of pitchers emerge

I feel like Lockhart was pulled a little early today. In a game that ended up 18-14 we pulled our starter in the 3rd inning after only giving up 2 runs. Why not find out if he can work out of it? He still had a 9 run cushion

Post game DVH was asked if he'd ever been involved in a game as crazy as this one. He couldn't remember but this one is what I was thinking of all afternoon.

Agree, but Ramage is the one bullpen guy I've got major concerns with. Not knocking the kid, but he's having a rough go of it this season.

8.47 ERA (4th highest), 17.0 IP, 18 runs (16 earned), 21 hits, .311 opp BA (4th highest).

His ERA and opponents BA are 4th highest on the team, and his 21 hits are far and away the most for any non-starter.

We need him to get it turned around because he's an upperclassman and has postseason and Omaha experience.

Waiting on NCBWA poll but likely unanimous #1 for a second time this season. All polls updated in OP.

Vandy being first in average and slugging but 5th in runs scored is odd

You think non-hosting regional teams would be better equipped for games 3-4? I don't know if I agree here.

We may not have a solidified starter, but we still have an embarrassment of riches in terms of how many arms we can put out with the potential for shutdown innings that, I would wager, are still more talented than what any 2-4 seeded regional squad would put out in games 3-4. I've actually become a fan of the short leash strategy on the starters/bullpen. Kind of like finding your hot shooter on the day and sticking with him. Find the guy or two who has his stuff going and ride him until it's time for Kopps/Wiggins.

Obviously there's the inherent risk of having to dig out of holes like we have so many times this year, but that's turning out to not be much of an issue with how well we hit the ball. In a perfect world you'd want every guy you put out to be effective, but I'm not hating the current setup so far. It's a bit unconventional, but with how many arms DVH can realistically put out I think we're built as well as you can be for a strategy like that.
