If they'd won, hardly anyone would remember it (I'd forgotten about the whole incident until reading about it in this thread) and things would have worked out fine.

He would not have been fired after his 3rd season had that incident not taken place. Coaches worse than Dykes (not that he was good) have been retained much longer than he was.

Eh, 12-18 in your second year and 13-17 (2-14 in conference) in your third year will do that. Particularly after the coach before you was dismissed for going 22-12, 24-9, 20-13, and 19-11 in his final four years.
It certainly didn't help things, but I don't think he was safe regardless.

I recall he also missed out on a string of highly touted in state recruits. Which, again, will not help you come contract renewal time.

TAMU is legit. Their point guard is incredible. Don’t think the Hogs have a chance but hope I’m wrong.

Yeah they looked like the worst team in the league early on but they've been playing a lot better lately.
If we miss the tournament it won't be for losing to A&M. It will be the MSU tip-in and the Mizzou game. Flip those to wins and we're safely in the tournament right now.
