If you're not buying players then just fold up the program. This is the SEC not the Big Sky

Part of our problem is we've been trying to run a "clean" program for the last 20 years

And that’s why a lot of people are becoming disenfranchised with college football.

Buying players leads to players playing for your team that have the wrong attitude about your team. Soon your team is composed of people that don’t really represent your team and it’s no longer your team.

IMO buying players is one of those non negotiables that can compromise the character of a team. But to compete at the highest level it feels you’re forced to do it. You’re left with coaches that got into the business for what college football was, not what it’s turning into, and they’re being forced to cross a non negotiable line. It’s their livelihood so they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. It is what it is, but buying players is a slippery slope.

I’d compare it to when I competed in bodybuilding, taking steroids was a non negotiable line I wasn’t willing to cross to compete at the highest level, so I quit pursuing bodybuilding seriously.

The problem with that is many programs receive a light slap on the wrist for repeatedly violating NCAA rules and guidelines, while we seem to get the shite kicked out of us by the NCAA, only to have it revealed years later that we had done nothing wrong. We have to learn to do what everyone else is doing, and when the shitstorm comes, to just weather it. Our fans want to shut down the program, when there's a hint of impropriety. It has to stop.

What's the deal here? I know LSU & A&M are expected to try to make a move.

I have a feeling that we are fixing to head to a bad place in football. Not like we aren't used to it though. This season and what's happened after this season leaves me with very little positive feelings for the future.

Hearing Tulane DC Chris Hampton has emerged as a strong candidate for the Arkansas defensive coordinator job. Hampton has made a big impact in a league championship season, and led the nation’s No. 15 defense and No. 2 in the AAC; and it’s No. 1 in 3rd down D in the league.

Possibly the most credible DC hire source we’ve had so far

Looks like he’s previously coached at Arkansas State and UCA for a year each so he’s got some ties to the state.

During the 2018 campaign, Hampton established the Green Wave as one of the American Athletic Conference’s top pass defenses, as Tulane led the nation in passes broken up.

The Green Wave also led the league and ranked first nationally in passes defended, finishing with 88. In the Green Wave’s matchup with ECU, Hampton’s unit was responsible for an NCAA-record 20 pass breakups.

Tulane’s secondary played a major role in generating turnovers as it collected 12 interceptions which ranked fourth in The American and 40th nationally.

Following the Green Wave secondary’s impressive 2018 campaign, Hampton was recognized nationally by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) with the 35 Under 35 Award.

Chris Hampton is in his sixth season serving on the Green Wave coaching staff in 2022 and his second serving as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Hampton played collegiate football at South Carolina where he was a four-year letterwinner and a two-year starter as a safety for the Gamecocks. He also earned the team’s Harold White Award which is given to the player with the highest grade point average.

To me that says I’m not a serious coach in todays game, and you should fire me for cause.

Edit: I saw buy and thought it was a quote about not buying players… still believe that when he says I don’t want to buy players, if he doesn’t then he needs to go back to high school level.

He left the team after his injury so it’s not too surprising. I think the initial thought was he was going to retire but looks like we wants one last go of it. Gonna suck when he’s at a division rival next year and magically plays the entire year without so much as a scratch.

Complete speculation but maybe Sam thinks that playoff expansion will increase our chances enough that our current resources will become much more effective.

I'm fully convinced that the 12 team playoff benefits us. I've never supported it since I think it hurts the product as we have traditionally known it but frick that since it never gave a shite about Arkansas.
