Offensive line is the hardest positions to develop and build depth. These aren't his players but he can't start a bunch of freshmen and not expect some growing pains.

Yeah but the kids he brought in year one aren’t freshman and if he knew they were going to be this bad he should’ve hit the portal last year. But the truth is they didn’t look this bad last year and most of last years like came back so we should’ve been better but instead we went backwards and actually played worse even with 4 returning starters

Don’t believe he started a bunch of freshman. Every game they bragged about how many starts everyone had together.
I expect growing pains from a freshman. I don’t expect it from 7th year seniors.

They were redshirt freshmen and sophomores when he got here. Experience matters more at those positions than any other area.
They can run block with the best of them and Sam is more concerned with running the ball at that point in time to move the chains in his offense. However pass blocking is a big concern now unlike it was two years ago.

The first part of your statement is very true. I remember an article a few years back looking at Pro Bowl offensive linemen and in that particular year, the average star rating of those guys was something like 2 and not a single 5-star player made it. One year sample size, but the point gets across.
Regarding the starting freshmen part....our starters on the depth chart going into the Missouri game was the following:
LT - Luke Jones R-SR
LG - Brady Latham - RS-JR
Center - Ricky Stromberg - SR
RG - Beaux Limmer - R-JR
RT - Dalton Wagner - R-SSR
A line with that much experience with a legendary line coach as HC shouldn't be getting pushed around by Liberty.

Everyone go look at the preseason posts. Yes our line was shite but it wasn't supposed to be.
This was the year because
Veteran qb- hurt most of season.
Veteran Oline- no idea why this went bad.
Great running back- rocket is a phenom.
Only concern was deep threat at WR.
Defense was supposed to be getting catalon back with slusher too. Transfers in secondary were highly touted as well.
Other than sanders transfers were slow to pick up the defense. And injuries knocked out a couple of our stars.

What I want to happen if Briles leaves, Petrino makes $325k base salary at Missouri State.
That’s a (crack) pipe dream, but it would be cool.

Arkansas is a top 10 rushing offense in the nation.

Which means absolutely nothing if you can't get 1 or 2 yards on the ground when you absolutely have to. The truth is, our entire offense took a step back this year, regardless of what the statistics show. There's lies, damned lies, and statistics. We couldn't pass consistently when we needed to throw it, we couldn't run consistently when we needed to run it, and the biggest part of that problem to me is much more on the predictable nature of Briles playcalling, than the performance of our offensive line. Sure, they were atrocious at times, but it is the OC's job to help them out and make the defense guess, rather than know, what we are trying to do. With very few exceptions, everyone in the stadium knew what we were doing on every down.

When they load the box with nine players and bottle up the middle, you don't run the ball but maybe change the play at the line of scrimmage that throws defenses off. Briles can't do that and it is easier to run the ball between the twenties but once the ball gets into the red zone, everything gets closer and much harder to get those extra yards. This where Petrino was deadly in the red zone because he knew how to read defenses. Briles can't read defenses and judge what they will do.

Even more simple: When a defense puts a spy on KJ, which many teams did this year, figure out the weakness it creates in the defense and exploit it. Hell, we had games this year where the spy on KJ never changed, and never stopped. Why? Because we never made it too costly for them to do so.
I realize that there are a lot of folks around here that think Briles is really good, but I just don't see us doing anything very intelligent on offense.

On a completely unrelated note, how awesome would that TE sneak have been with Austin Cantrell? He probably would have scored no less than three times on it while devouring the souls of at least 5 Mizzou defenders.
