I know. He's awful. That's why this entire board is posting about how he will be a head coach in the next five minutes

What did Reid do to piss the coaches off? Great holder, especially for fakes. Average punter but the other dude didn't do any better. This feels like the biggest loss so far.
He got a bachelor's degree and now wants a master's degree from a different school

NIL/Portal is killing college football.
Changing it for the worse IMO but we have needed to separate the divisions again for a while. This is the first step to that and a new system. It's gonna be a little messy.

These changes were made at our lowest point in history and I just don't see us clawing our way out of this hole
These changes made it easier to crawl out of our hole than ever before. The fact we turned around so quickly is a testament to that. We won one SEC game in the 3 years before Oct 3, 2020. Now, slightly over two years later, we want to fire our head coach for going 3-5 and getting to a bowl.

fans won't get as invested in players because they're cycling out all the time
I disagree. Each year will feel much more like a clean slate.

In football the exact opposite has happened. We're the ones getting poached. We're one of the feeder teams.
Not true at all so far. Even if we lose a couple of contributors we would still be on the positive side of portal madness. Brooks is the only true loss we have had from it IMO.

bruh, he played here five years already and graduated
love you man, chill

LSU was the first. If you happen to have players commit to your school who view it as a second or third choice well the portal changes that. They will transfer to the programs they grew up on, offered more money, want to be closer to home or simply want to win championships.
what the "the portal change" with Bauer?
he's a grad transfer

Jimmy Smith to USCe to be their next RB Coach? He is from South Carolina, so it would make sense.

Sitting at 6/6 we will essentially become a development/feeder program for upper echelon programs... If we don't change something major soon.
Yes, 6/6 programs have a few incredible players. It is what it is I suppose....
We were 13 points from a 10-2 season. The portal NIL deal didn’t influence that.
Y’all are overreacting, no surprise. If anything the portal NIL will help us better compete when we pick up players like a drew sanders or landers.

I agree about the portal. We pick up some offensive linemen, linebackers and secondary. We could at least be better than this year.

Some kids are more coachable than others and some just can't do what is coached. A coach only has so much time with a player. The player has to take the time to practice on their own.
Not directed toward any specific player, just a general statement.
I saw an interview where Bill Belichick would ask the defensive players they were going to draft or sign "how much do you love football". This should be the approach with a lot of these guys.

Crazy day when I agree with HRV.
The portal has done a lot of bad, but giving a kid a chance who doesn't feel like he's totally finished with ball and isn't going to play in their final year for their team (after putting in 4 years) isn't one of them.
And shame on people calling this kid a quitter and such. He isn't going to play here, the coaching staff is moving in another direction, and I imagine they told him that he should look elsewhere if he's wanting to play a final year. On top of that, he may get a chance to get some graduate school paid for.

I figured Sam would give Jimmy a huge pay bump to keep him to keep that Georgia pipeline flowing.
Posted on 11/30/22 at 10:49 am to hawgfaninc
That would be fine but that could be negated if you can't keep the good players you have now. That is the problem. You get a Sanders but lose a Sanders to an SEC school. It is isn't sustainable and makes the job harder.

People are worrying about something that hasn’t materialized, if anything it’s the opposite.
The portal has benefited us, not hurt us.
