I’m all good with giving him the job as long as three things can be confirmed:
1) are the big money folks willing to fund BP to assemble a team?
2) can he assemble a great staff or is his reputation too damaged?
3) independent of NIL, will talented players want to join the program with BP in charge? That’s not just an NIL question, because the dollar offers to players are similar between programs and the kids then choose based on other intangibles
To me that’s what if bios down to because he can damn sure still coach

He needs to bring Kiero Small back. Strength and conditioning, but more than anything, he would bust your arse. Need some guys with that mentality. Bring in some real men. Actual real life badasses. It rubs off and when it comes to recruiting, real knows real.
ETA-and Alex Mortensen. I think he's gonna be a good one. I think he would be an OC under Bobby P and learn. Of course, he may win the head coaching job at UAB.

I've never had 'poor little Arkansas syndrome' at all. My concern about this hire isn't that no one wants the job either.
The real concern for me is about the competence of those that are tasked with making the hire. Honestly, I truly believe that we have some really good coaches out there that are very interested in this job. I just have almost zero confidence that they can go out there and make a damn good hire.
And fwiw, I have no issues hiring someone other than Petrino if it is good candidate. I don't have any confidence at the moment that HY and Co. can make that happen and would likely frick it up.
And that is partly why Petrino is the answer for me. Give him a competitive NIL package and see what happens. I personally don't consider him washed up and I think he has partially shown that the last two games. Kids don't need to be convinced to play anywhere these days other than $. Support the staff with the right NIL package and we are in good shape.

This is the answer.
It's sad when you've moved the goalposts for a nostalgic retread.

that nostalgic retread has shown major glimpses of what he can accomplish. Plus he doesn't sugar coat it, gets on their rears, and expects improvement.
We have sorely missed this type of a coach man. So, yeah... I am dreaming of the "Good Ole Days"

I’d be fine keeping Petrino if he can bring in a Mark Stoops or DJ Durkin to run the defense once they are canned.

You’re saying retread and you got people wanting to hire Mullen, someone who was fired for being arse.

Sure seems like you have it..opining for a 20-25 coach because you have found memories of 2 seasons 15 years ago that has never reached that goal again in a much weaker ACC or in the FCS.

How many times are you gonna throw the 20-25 record out there without any context?

Ignore the fact that the only side of the ball he was directly responsible for the last two years is the 5th best in the nation currently. He had a bad record in a cherry-picked set of games. He's clearly washed up.
Edit: Oh pardon me, currently 4th best in the nation and #1 in the conference after adding this week. The game has clearly passed him by.

Louisville did it, why not us?
You spend the money and get a big name hire and Merlin's isn't it.
If we in fact are the poors, you keep Bobby

Our fanbase is embarrassing tbh. Coaches that are 128-60 and 137-72 in their careers aren’t good enough to coach here.

Give us names, you shite on every name mentioned but never say any names you like?

Dillingham deserves a solid look as well

Your assumption is wrong. I am not 'opining' for anything and it's common sense considering our current situation(mainly our AD) that BP is the clear answer to our head coach situation.

I wouldn't be upset at all if we managed to hire Dillingham. Just not sure we could pull off that hire. Stranger things have happened I suppose.

Yeah, my feelings aren't hurt by seeing Bobby P's offense back. Just think what he can do if the boosters are behind him and I feel like they are. I think this is why he was brought back.

Mrs. Golesh is from Greenwood and a huge Hog fans. I would imagine she has some pull at home.
Silverfield is also going to be a hot name.
Bobby's 0-2 so far, but it's obvious they look much improved. We would be a much different team if he had been at the helm all season.
Seriously, Bobby's not a bad choice and we all know we can and have done much worse.
