He still has a job and is coaching. You can’t announce until he no longer has that job!

If you announce now or anytime before it’s throwing away money.

Oh you mean like all the other assistants who left for other teams?

What's chavis' buyout anyways? Something no one has even mentioned, but we love to base it off of that.

And everyone loves to brag about our money, but we're afraid to pay a bit to announce chavis.

I wouldn't give him 1.6 to even come here /yr.

I really don't understand how this would be our problem when he's not even being retained. They know it, we know it, the world knows it, but yet 1.6 is keeping our hire secret.

Yeah, it does piss me off. We could do better, yet we're playing these games over a washed up old coach, that day by day goes on and recruits are wondering.

Not mad at Morris, but if you don't think this is ignorant then I don't know how else to put it.

The melt is strong with some of us...

Chavis isn't the best we could get, but he definitely isn't the worst.

Tell me why chavis is so great and how we couldn't do better. I'd like to hear your argument for that at least.

When did he say that we couldn't do better?

He's saying that if it is indeed Chavis, we won't announce it until he is let go so that we don't have to pay as much for him as we would otherwise.

Yeah and my argument is, why hire someone that no other team wants? This would likely be his last stop. Do you really want that? We don't need another complacent coach that we pay more than what he's actually worth.

I never once said Chavis was great. I told you why and gave reasons he wouldn’t be announced if he’s the guy as many suggest.

His resume speaks for itself. Two decades of successful experience in the SEC as a DC, including two national championship appearances as one. You'll probably respond with the talent argument, and while he did have good talent at LSU and Tennessee, he still did a good job of identifying guys and then developing them. You don't get to two national championships as a DC on teams that relied on their defense unless you're a good coach. I don't care what school it's at. Morris has placed an emphasis on recruiting, and I'd expect our defensive position coaches to be good recruiters. Let them have at it in Texas and Chavis will be able to produce a good defense.

Man how I wish we could get Reggie Herring back on the sideline. That defense was fun to watch.

I'd be happy with chavis. he's been successful everywhere he's been outside of aggie land. plus aggies were gimped by sumlin.

that said I'm still praying for vegetables or the grinch for Christmas

Offenses have changed over the last few years. Along with that, DC's that were formerly successful against 'conventional' offenses are required to change as well.
Has Chavis been successful in adapting to the 'new normal' offenses of the SEC?

Do you mean Morris doesn't have one in mind? Because that's almost certainly not true. There may be a hundred factors playing into why a DC hasn't been named, but I can't imagine Morris doesn't know who is available, who he wants, and who it will probably be at this point.

The fact its taking this long to find one is kind of concerning.

He has been the coach for what, 15 days now? 15 days that have also encompassed the first ever early signing day for recruits. Obviously, the man has had a few things to do. Considering that this hire could make all the difference in whether he is successful as a coach here, I'm thinking it's a good thing that he is taking the time he needs.
