To look that sloppy and rough and still beat a very good team is encouraging. We can play 30 points better than that with a few tweaks.
It’s not just that the coaches hafta figure out who is most effective where….you hafta play enough that the players accept that assessment and play their best role.

The defense is as good as advertised.

If you watch when the game was over.
Mikka had the ball and threw it at a Gonzaga player.

Brazile swinging his towel at a fan comes to mind
Cal seems to specialize in developing & utilizing players with that edge. Better to have that edge & nastiness than the opposite end of the spectrum imo

think Cal can talk a lot of these guys into taking a discount because of his track record of getting guys drafted.
This. Cal is generally getting the guys he really wants. That NIL ranking is pretty misleading.

Bowser played well. Jordan Smith Jr looked lost and struggled big time. Hoping that was an anomaly. Big environment for someone’s first game

Make some more of those free throws and their cruising…

I’m not going to judge anyone on 1 game, but my initial impression on JSJ is that it seems his value is mostly his physicality and aggressiveness. I’m not seeing a great shooter or distributor. Even if he’s not a + shooter or distributor, he can still be a huge asset to the team, but I could see him sharing an equal role, maybe even taking on a secondary role, with the other guards, versus him being the alpha dog like many expected.
With that being said, it would not shock me if he looks totally different offensively next game and I end up saying “Nevermind everything I said.”

Kamani Johnson (often misspelled as Comani) is helping coach the Arkansas Razorbacks' frontcourt, where rebounding is one of his core focus areas.
John Calipari hired Johnson as a graduate assistant for the 2026–27 season, specifically tasks him with developing and coaching Arkansas' forwards.
His coaching role directly correlates to his legendary reputation as a player:
• The Glass Master: During his playing career at Arkansas (2021–2023), Johnson was renowned for his relentless toughness and grit under the rim.
• Record Holder: He graduated as the top offensive rebounder in Razorback history, holding the program's top two single-season offensive rebounding rates as well as the all-time career rate (averaging one offensive board every 6 minutes and 17 seconds on the floor).
I really felt this was a good hire, he was a clutch rebounder and and I could see him having a big impact on the players. JJ Andrews reminds me of his tendency.

This team is going to spank Florida when they visit Fayetteville.

We still have a womens team? Figured it would have been scrapped to save money.
