It sounds insane, but i would honestly take Nutt for 3 yrs just to rebuild the team and pump some life and enthusiasm into it.
You make him sign a contract that says he can't call the plays and must run an updated offense and keep the behind the scenes politicking and bullshite at bay, and if he were there simply to find talent and motivate and create a physicality for the team to pass on to the next guy I'd be fine. Really I would.
I think more people would rather have 2 or 3 years of Nutt for around $10 million and a small buyout (he'd do it, you have the leverage) than sign some massive $50 million gus deal. I also think more people hate Gus than they do Nutt. At least Nutt knows he's flawed.
He knows some in the state don't like him.
Gus is just an a-hole who doesn't hive a shite and has a small band of sycophants in his corner.

Serious question, why doesn't Arkansas entertain Rhett Lashlee over Gus?
- Much better recruiter than Gus
- Arkansas Alum
- Currently on a tear w/ SMU combining Air Raid + Gus' Offense
- Likely school friendly deal

One big reason is there is a really good chance we are getting someone with head coaching experience. It is pretty crucial we get someone who has some experience running a program. Another is whether it would be a good hire or not, getting Arkansas fans behind another SMU coach would be really hard.
Besides all of that, there are legit candidates that have proven more.
If we hire a defensive minded coach, it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw his name around for OC.

Gene is a good poster. I'm sure his question was meant in good faith but some on the Auburn side seem to not understand that there are plenty that don't want Gus now or the last search. They confused the BOT and our fans the last search.
There are some in our fan base that will never like Gus because of his past here but there are plenty of reasons to not want him that exclude his past history here as well. My reasoning for not wanting Gus has nothing to do with his time in Arkansas.

I guess we deserve it, since we obviously have a few vocal Gus supporters still hanging on, but the “he isn’t nearly good enough for us, but he would be great for you” horseshite grinds my gears some.

Rashlee will never get a chance because there are still too many nutt huggers in our fanbase. And they can't stand the idea of a coach who cut his teeth in NWA being hired. "HE from da nwa - they da debil!"

I'm going to go ahead and pray that you're 100% wrong on this IF Lashlee ends up being a worthy candidate someday. Provided he gets experience somewhere, has great success, and we have an opening after this occurs...there's absolutely zero reason to rule him out. In fact, that'd be setting a new standard in Arkansas stupidity.
