Long Overspending?

Is there any water to this rumor. A booster recently told me that Jeff is overspending and losing money and that’s the reason many want him gone. I just feel like this has little truth to it. I’m in the minority of people who believe Long has actually done a pretty solid job if you look at the whole picture.

I think people are worried that the program is on the hook for 100+ million for those renovations at a time when fan support is waning.
It's not a good look to be losing right now. Win your damn games and everything will be fine.

I never understood the love for Long. He hasn’t done anything special that any other AD in the country couldn’t do with the money that this conference brings.
He really loves to promote himself though. He sucks at hiring football coaches who understand the culture here and what it takes to win in this conference. Perceptionally, he seems to be dragging his feet in letting go Bert as well. Attendance is spiraling down. Hope has been flushed down the shitter.
Why not just cut ties with the Fat arse and be done with him? I bet Enos could do better as interim than this Fat Monkey with a headset.

I think a lot of people like him because he has no ties here and no southern accent- and I'm only being partly facetious there.

He sounds like frickin Kermit the Frog.

Like most folks in NWA?

He is very smart to do this. And it is good for Razorback athletics that he does.
By all accounts he is an outstanding AD. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter so much as the fact that people believe he is.
By keeping Bielema around for a full 5 years he is sending a message to perspective coaches that if you're not a shitbag of a person, and strive to do things the right way you will be afforded every opportunity to succeed here while earning a competitive salary and working under the "best" AD in the country.
It is because of his self promotion and recognition as one of the best in the industry he is able to make great hires. Let's face facts, his last two football hires were both widely perceived as Grand slams. As coups, in fact.

Maybe? I really don't know who all, but there's a certain self hatred that some Arkansans feel that I don't quite understand myself.
I have no problem with someone being from somewhere else, I like to see and experience new and different things but some take it to a whole other level and think that a northern accent equals superior intelligence and I'll never be dumb enough to believe that.

Eeeh, i would be more concerned with viewership trends currently spreading across the country.
Why build a bigger stadium, when everyone will just watch on youtube in 20 years. Probably not a sound investment if you ask me.

Except for Alabama, Georgia as of right now, and perhaps MSU (again just the past 2 years) every fan base in the SEC is saying the same thing.
I'd say he's done a great job hiring football coaches, they just haven't worked out. Look at who TN, FL and LSU have recently hired and tell me we haven't made better hires. Hindsight is 20/20 but day 1 BP and BB were both great hires.
Also personal opinion of Long aside he's done a good job transitioning our AD into more of a business and our facilities across the board have improved significantly since he started. Lets not forget he had to follow JFB. Most AD's wouldn't have lasted 3 years following that legacy.

Don't forget John L Smith

This is what I was referring to. Any Athletic Director can do this especially with all of the TV money this conference brings in. If we had a winning program, it would be even better.
But...the dumb arse doesn't even demand excellence. He just wants them to not have a negative eye to the public and kids to graduate. I would rather have an AD that demands excellence. Kids will still graduate. Other programs demand excellence and still have kids earning their degrees. Why can't we?
We pay Fat arse as the 6th highest paid coach in the conference and haven't gotten close to what we're paying for.
Jeff Long is also the 8th highest paid AD in the country.
Do you think we've gotten our money's worth out of these two arse holes?

Exactly
That’s why most people on this board keep using ‘hungry’ ‘go getter’ ‘motivated’ when describing their next coach. Long doesn’t command excellence. Thats why Mike has had 7years to turn around a program.

Money's worth? Absolutely I do. This is evidenced by the fact that our athletic department is more than competitive financially.
Wins? No. Obvious to everyone that Bielema isn't doing his job very well and he needs to go, IMO.

So every SEC school has the facilities we do across the board. Because that isn't what fans from other schools believe.

OK, we get it.
You hate frick a blow up Jeff Long doll every night.
He's done what he should do here. Yes, Bielema turned out to suck. Well that happens.
We are making money hand over fist, Beilema is likely out the door at the end of season, we are pretty good across all sports, and last I checked the NCAA is not about to come down on us like a ton of bricks.
Jesus Christ. "How dare he not be able to travel through time and realize Bielema was not a good hire!" I didn't want Bielema but he was considered a steal at the time. John L. Smith was an emergency hire so who would hold that against him?
He doesn't demand Excellence!!!!!! Yes. Because shite canning coaches their second or third year is just going to bring everyone running to be your head coach. "Well shite, why wouldn't I take a job at a school that if we have one down year will fire me?"
He gave Bielema enough time to turn things around and Bielema couldn't do it. Lets see what happens after this season before we start jerking off to visions of Jeff Long dying in a car wreck how about?

While NWA has a larger percentage of OOS transplants than any other part of the state, it is still populated by native Arkansans by a large margin.

Truth. Been here practically all my life and it's amazing how much the culture and people have changed up here.
There is nothing southern about NWA anymore. The yanks and midwesterners have forever changed this area.
