That Sampson isn't the best option. Exhibit A was Buzz.

Exhibit B:

502–195 (.720) over 21 seasons.

14 NCAAT appearances, 3 into the 2nd round, 1 Sweet 16, 1 Final Four.

All while playing 2nd fiddle to an elite blue blood within a small populous state.

I don't think it really matters, to be honest. I think there's about 4 candidates out there right now who I have confidence in.

Thing to consider is Arkansas's ceiling as a basketball program. It's very high.

Whoever Arkansas hires will do some of their best work in Fayetteville because the infrastructure is already there and the fan support is unwaivering.

Beard, Sampson, Musselman, Buzz, Stevens. Give me any of those 5 please. Any of them will do just fine in Fayetteville.

Donovan is the best option IMO. Followed by Stevens. But those are unrealistic honestly. Unless they were to be fired.

Any of the above listed is better than Mike for sure.

Well, I thought Stevens was unrealistic too until I realized Arkansas is currently offering more money than he makes. AND the folks there in Boston are already having to do the "we have full confidence in Brad" song and dance after throwing him under the bus.

Remember, this dude has only been a head coach since 2010 and has already been called up to the pros after taking Butler to back-to-back Final Fours.

If he doesn't mind recruiting, I don't see it as too much a stretch that he would move back down to the collegiate ranks for more money than he currently makes.

Could be wrong, but I got my fingers crossed.

Overall Win Pct. @ IU: 74.1%

One problem with an NBA candidate is waiting till May or longer.

Brad Steven or Donovan are psychotic ideas.

What do you mean? One problem, meaning one of many

I already said that I don't think Billy would even be interested at all

How so? Brad Stevens is an outstanding basketball coach and any program would be lucky to have him.

He would win multiple titles at a place like Arkansas. 100% confident.

The part about waiting til May would suck, but I would be thrilled in the end if we could get him.

(I'm not saying I think we will get him. Just that there's several good candidates to pursue)

Not at all.

I do not want Buzz Williams. We had plenty of opportunity to have double digit loss seasons with Mike Anderson. There is no upgrade if you hire Buzz. Sorry.

tbh the more that I think about it, Idk if I want Sampson. I think it may be a smoke screen. I hope whoever we get ends up performing better than Mike - which honestly wouldnt take much if they did a good job at recruiting and firing up the players.

First name tossed out usually is a smokescreen.

But he upsets higher seeds in the first round of the tournament because his teams are underseeded based on talent level ability due to this less than Mike Anderson winning percentage during the season.

And he isn't upsetting Duke/UNC/Kansas perennial top seeds in the process, he's been very fortunate in first round match ups as his usual 7+ seed, something Arkansas has not been.

This point right here should put a full stop on him as a candidate.

I didn't realize he doesn't win more than 66% of his games.

It would be beyond foolish to fire someone only to hire someone who doesn't do as good a job as the guy you just fired. Especially if the guy you just fired is literally beloved by the fanbase.

It's something I would expect Jeff Long to do.

This is NOT Kelvin Sampson

06-07: 17 losses
08-09: 10 losses
09-10: 12 losses
10-11: 15 losses
13-14: 15 losses
14-15: 22 losses
15-16: 15 losses
16-17: 11 losses
17-18: 12 losses

Mike Anderson’s resume is better than Buzz Williams. Buzz just happened to face weaker NCAAt competition.

Fair. But you have to consider Buzz has been in the ACC the past 5 years while Sampson has been in a G5 league the past 5 years.

Sampson is the winningest coach in OU history and guided them to 9 consecutive 20 win seasons in the Big 12. He made the NCAAT 11 of 12 years there with 3 Big 12 tournament titles, 2 national coach of the year awards, a final four and elite eight.
