This is a business, sweetheart. No need to feel sorry for Mike. If he can get this program turned around and winning at a higher clip, then he won’t have anything to worry about regarding New AD.

The fact that this sentence is in his statement would indicate that he probably got ripped apart by the BOT and/or Steinmetz over the “we’re not a win at all cost program” comment and the allusions to GPA/APR during periods of futility.
Regardless of where you stood on Long, he had a very real perception problem on his hands in that a large portion of our fan and donor base felt like winning was never a priority for his administration, and — rightly or wrongly — he tended to exacerbate that with his public demeanor.

I agree that his public spots didn't help him much, but it's kind of a "chicken or the egg" scenario.
Did he feel his job was on the line and thus he needed to point to any and all positives he could, which lately were mostly academic related? Or was his job on the line BECAUSE he could only point to academic successes lately?

OP, could you kindly point out the part where the "one last dig" is? Im just assuming its not in the part of his statement that you selectively removed.

The idiots on the Morning Rush have been spending the last two days making a big deal about how Long thanked the fans last and how it proves he was out of touch and/or didn’t care about them.
I’m no Long supporter, but I have a hard time getting rustled about that.

They are terrible, and profoundly stupid at that.
They quite literally sit around and do nothing but create strawman arguments out of thin air and rehash them ad nauseum.
Their show is a veritable vacuum of fabricated strawman disinformation under the guise of “honestly.”
