I've always liked Long, and defended through the Petrino mess, the John L. debacle (which was a terrible move), and 0-8.
He had the spine to make a tough decision, and he didn't desert the program when he could've parlayed it into another, better job, all the while staying loyal to a fan base that in large part never embraced him. He had the unenviable task of replacing a legend and having to make the tough decisions that had been kicked down the road for so long like drastically improving our facilities, raising ticket prices to be competitive with other SEC programs, and pulling games out of Little Rock.

I think it helps that the people at the University and the people with money appreciate him. He's done an amazing job at improving the reputation of the University. Unlike the Baylors, Mississippis, Florida States and Tennessees of the world we have developed a reputation for valuing integrity over cheap victories.

This is a great bunch of points. Our AD choice could have gone sooo wrong in so many different ways after Broyles. We really did luck into a good one. He's actually a pretty down to earth guy as well. Has his kids in public school, attends their field trips and helps chaperone them, and is just a pretty nice guy (despite what a lot of the GOB network would have us believe).

I'm pretty pleased with who we have. If we could get the men's basketball team fixed we'd be going full speed. Plus name another AD at a major school that would do the slip and slide routine?
