Portland St. will have the biggest player on the field, by far. One of their tackles is in the neighborhood of 6-10, 400 lbs. is what I read somewhere.

I remember in 9th grade I was a starting defensive tackle. One school we played had a 300 lb offensive tackle on my side. I was 180 lbs. I asked coach if I would be able to handle this guy. Coach said I sure would, the guy would never even be able to touch me.

Ole Coach Walls was right. I slanted and ran around the guy. They pulled him after their first series.

This is what I don't understand. Like when we had Dan Skipper. It makes more sense in my mind to play guys like that on the defensive line than it does on the offensive line. For several reasons. Nothing against Skipper. I think he's awesome. It just seems like the wrong personnel call. JMO

nah hed get worked as offensive olinement woukd always have the low leverage that's why your average dlineman is shorter than your oline typically. they work to get wunderkind the oline in pass protection and the online men uses his hands to keep the back which is why long arms can help an oline if he can use them correctly

I'll take your word for it. I didn't play football as a child. It just seemed to me that someone who is damn near 7' tall would be an asset on defense on obvious passing downs especially. Conversely, it would seem that someone that tall would be a hindrance on offense on obvious passing downs.

Not that it matters any I don't guess. I don't think having a 7' tall tackle is going to make much difference in the outcome of the game this Saturday. Thanks for the explanation.

So we're giving away tickets (literally) for the opener.

I realize its Portland State...and I realize its labor day weekend (great planning there).

I still will be shocked if actual butts in seats exceeds 50,000...with about 1/3 of those being gimme tickets.

uhh I guess I’m missing something here. The opening weekend of college football is always Labor Day weekend?

Length is goodness on the dline as well especially at d end. If you have long arms and can extend them on the offensive lineman you can then get rid of him and get in the backfield also height makes knocking down passes easier obviously. This is why team try to get long defensive ends. You don’t want a 6’1 or 6’2 guy at end unless he’s an absolute monster

This is surprising, this early, it has been awhile since the university has done this.

If Chad proves to be all hat and no cattle, the boards will be a buzz about ticket sale obligations in his contract and how that will be the out of a buy out. The the foundation will pay the buyout after he is dismissed.
