Or maybe Petrino doesn't even come to Arkansas, because we aren't in the SEC, but in the Texass 12, with a dubious at best future. The possibilities are endless.

That's not a realistic goal at Arkansas. Two good years with Petrino doesn't change that.

And you keep bringing up the Sun Belt for some reason, when I'm advocating for moving to another power 5 conference where we already have some rivalries and almost all the schools are closer to Fayetteville. It would be better for the fans, and if people can put aside their pride they'll see that it's a perfect fit.

It's just wishful thinking on my part, and it will almost assuredly never happen because "the money." We'll keep getting embarrassed in the SEC and lose to Alabama for another twelve years in a row to make a few bucks. Maybe even get a few more suites!

Couldn’t disagree more. The Petrino years proves exactly that. He was a prick that everyone from his assistant coaches, to his players, to the refs, to his fellow coaches, had a visceral dislike for. Defense was an afterthought, and only performed to it’s level through fear, intimidation, and because the players didn’t want to be the one he chose to vomit his wrath upon.

If Petrino could do it, another can do it, and do it with class and style.

I thought your ultimate goal was conference wins? We aren’t going to beat Texass or Oklahomo in any recruiting battles either. Why is it okay to lose to those two every year, make less money, and be in a shite conference with far fewer chances to win anything of significance, and garner much less respect in the college football world? Do you enjoy the prospects of Texass, Oklahomo, and maybe even Oklahomo State picking up stakes and shuffling off to the PAC 12, leaving us in whatever is left? Do you really think it would be good for us to be back in a conference in which Texass has an even tighter grip on how it is ran than they did the SWC?

Or, maybe we get a good coach who recruits at the highest levels we’ve ever seen, who brings a brand of football that seems to be the path to success in the college football world, and we return to having success, this time at the highest levels of college football, bringing with it the possibility of winning it all.

Look, I am going to play devils advocate here. In some ways, I agree with Sun. We haven't won anything of note in the since we have been in the sec. Not one conference title, just one BCS game a loss and even with top 20 recruiting are still almost dead last in the SEC West. A coach who hasn't proven anything as a HC yet against Nick Saban, Jimbo, Gus, every year. They recruit at a much higher level and have had more success period.

Now we also are up against Luke, the shrimp boat captain, morehead, which gives me a bit of hope. But with TAMU is about to become a monster with Fisher and the recruiting there.

So, 4th best in the west at most? Perhaps with better coaching we pull off an upset of LSU??? once in a blue moon. 3rd best in the West gets us what exactly? No NC, NO playoff appearance Cap 1?

And, Petrino would not have the success now with the new transfer rules. These kids wouldn't take his crap anymore.

NOW BACK TO NORMAL. Frick em. Although we don't have much of a chance in hades of hitting the jackpot, we can at least play spoiler...

I had fun reading your post. Texass and Oklahomo, brilliant.

I'd rather be third in the Big 12, which would put us in the top 25 every year, than be in the bottom of the SEC, which is where we are now and historically.

The problem with this is if we finish in the bottom of the SEC, we likely aren’t finishing as high as 3rd in the Big 12 either. Teams like TCU and even Iowa State have been better than us lately too. Being in the SEC isn’t the reason we suck right now IMO.

2 out of the last 5 years has the B12 had more than 2 teams in the final poll, after a cursory look.

We probably aren’t going to compete recruiting wise against TX and OK year in and year out either. Not until we take a place among the elite in college football. There is an inflation factor in recruiting, depending on program status. If that weren’t the case, we would never be able to compete with any of the big boys, ever.

You need to look better because it's actually 5 out of the last 5.

I’ll look again. Not terribly familiar with who all is in the Texass 12.

ETA: Yeah, Iowa State and West Virginia threw me some.

We signed more four stars than we ever have in our history. Hudson Henry and Treylon Burks are really 5-star players but are rated as four-stars because they committed to Arkansas. It was an amazing class, stonehog. This shtick is as old as Pio's defese of Mike Anderson.

Idk why y’all waste time with this idiot. He has his narrative and he’s gonna do anything he can to spin it his way. Critical thinking isn’t something stonehog is capable of. Leave him be.

A move to the the big 12 would be cancer. Who the frick wants to pay for the longhorn network? The best thing that could happen would be a dissolution of the big 12. mississippi's down, mizzou is on the verge of being down, tennessee could go the same way. the ogre will ogre. it sucks right now but we're not in a bleak scenario.

Just going to point out that LSU has won the West a whopping one more time than we have since we joined the SEC.

When did Stonehog form the Mike Anderson 100% over-the-top support narrative but everything else be against? I thought he was different until recently Are you really Eric Bolin? You give off those vibes although he likes DVH much more than you voice.

I at Arkansas would be 3rd in the B12 recruiting rankings and the asinine assumption the 2019 class would be the same position if in the B12.

The only reason we recruit at the level we do is the SEC backing. It is vital for us in attracting recruits to play vs SEC competition, it certainly isn’t recent success based recruiting.

Stonehog before spouting off B12 nonsense you need to look at these rankings - LINK

We’d very likely be in the 35-40 range nationally where TCU, Baylor and OSU landed and all three have had more recent success on the field and deeper ties within that region and conference. Pitching recruits in the Southeast to play in the B12 isn’t a sell vs SEC. The reason so many SEC schools are in the rankings top 25.

You mean like crowning Chad as some recruiting wizard when he gets the 10th best class in the conference?

Chaggots: "OMG, Chad, what an amazing recruiter. Watch out SEC."

Me: "This class is 6th in the division."

Chaggots: "Chad is literally Jesus Christ."

That's not saying much. This year we had a better class than MSU, Kentucky, Mizzou and Vandy. Last year we had the worst class in the league.

But it's cool that we have a bunch of players who want to participate in the SEC. They'll get to experience losing to Bama, LSU and A&M every year. Might even get to experience the Independence Bowl if we sneak up on somebody and have a big year.

After giving it some thought, from an academic perspective (you know, what universities are actually for), being in the Big 12 actually makes more sense.

The top 5 out of state student totals at UA:
Texas - 6,230
Missouri - 1,655
Foreign - 1,482
Oklahoma - 1,107
Kansas - 828

The 3 highest SEC out of state totals are:
Missouri - 1,655 (do they really count as SEC?)
Tennessee - 434
Louisiana - 205

However, the Big 12 is just Texas and it's colonies. It would take a complete overhaul of the conference to make it worth joining.

I really don't get this sentiment. You can say that about the old SWC but there are several programs in the Big 12 that have been doing better than Texas in the last decade. And how would it be worse than being in the same division as Bama? It's like people are content with getting blown out by the other teams in our division every year just so we can say we're in the SEC.
