My first job ever was in a catfish joint and I have always found Catfish Hole to be overrated. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it isn't near as good as it's made out to be if you ask me. And it's overpriced.

It’s not in the top 10 catfish places in Arkansas. I don’t get the love for that place

I've had better catfish that was cooked up in a grocery store. No joke.

Hats off to the folks that run the Catfish Hole, though. They've done a damn good job building their business. It's just not for me. We still go there from time to time to have lunch with family. So it's not like I hate it or anything. It's good. It's just that I've had much better.

Well, they marketed themselves as the eatery of the Razorbacks and it worked. I think most people go there because that's where our football team does its recruiting dinners and their weekly radio show. Smart business.

But I've always maintained that a good catfish joint is a guaranteed money maker. If you focus on making the best fried catfish you possibly can people WILL COME TO YOU for it. Location doesn't even have to be all that great.

People that like fried catfish LOVE fried catfish. Same with BBQ.

I can get from my house in midtown Fayetteville to trails in Bentonville or Bella Vista in 25 minutes since they’ve finished the construction on 49 between Springdale and Lowell. That’s not driving during rush hour, though. When the construction in Bentonville is finished, it should get even quicker.

Best hushpuppies i've had in Arkansas is either at The Hook in Jacksonville or Freds Fish House in Batesville.

It feels odd saying it but Sharks has some damn good catfish. It's not so much the catfish as it is the breading and seasoning though. They have that on point.

I consider myself an expert when it comes to the state of Arkansas.

Spent two decades in south Arkansas.
Spent a decade in central Arkansas
Closing in on a decade in NWA.

There is no debate.

Speaking of catfish places, Catfish Hole is severely overrated. The people of NWA from Minnesota or California think it is a good representation of southern food, but if you want a real catfish restaurant experience, you need to go to a more rural town and go to their local restaurant.
