How would you rate Pittman’s job of replacing coaches this offseason

On a scale of 1-10

I’ll give him an 8.
Kinda impressed by the guy who some say is in over his head.

Almost everyone said change at the coordinator & position coaches needed to happen at least one point in this season, and the replacements he hired by many would be considered upgrades. He got quality replacements that seem to address areas their predecessors were lacking in. Hard to ask for much more. Just wish we had upgraded the oline position coach, but maybe their issues were part strength & conditioning and part the offensive scheme. Guess we’ll see

About the same. 8 or 9.

OC/QB Coach - Upgraded in actual coaching and development. Play calling probably even split. Recruiting probably a little more towards KB for the TX connection. Hopefully, Enos is better recruiter than his last stint here.

TE Coach - Huge upgrade.

DC - Better recruiter. Play calling can't really get worse than Odom this last season.

DB Coach - Huge upgrade

S&C - Have no clue. I'm assuming upgrade, as it can't get really worse there either.

Still need a 10th assistant and I wish we would gone head and upgraded from Deke Adams as well. DL recruiting has been horribly quiet. The fact we lost our lone DT commit and didn't get at least one addition from this past portal window is pretty pathetic.

Not going to numerically rate. But I think he’s done the best considering where we currently are right now and what our appeal to candidates was during the coaching carousel. Could be in a much more unstable feeling position.

Looks good overall on paper, however, the proof will be seen on the field (or not).

6. Upgrade defensively since it can’t be worse and a wash offensively

9... and that is a big statement from me.

I am a Briles fan, and think he is going to be really good as a HC one day. However, I am also an Enos fan. First name that I said when I realized Briles may be gone. Surprised Sam got him and had him so quickly. Dude has proven a few things this season that I Was uneasy about.

Enos is a + overall, Qback coaching is great, Playcalling will be a bit improved, Recruiting???

S&C + Dude is a beast at getting folks prepared for the season. Hyped as well as his assistant. Will be great for the players.

On defense, Odom was terrible.. just terrible. One game we would look like world beaters, and then for 3 games straight, yuck. I understand the injuries, but his recruiting on that side left much to be desired as well.

One coach left to get??? we will see. But I like it thus far!

Seems that Pittman really is respected among his peers. We were told that when he was hired, but I didn't know if it was really the case, and if that translated to being able to pull in great assistants.

I don't really know a lot about the new DC, but I think Odom was better than many give him credit for being. I know he wasn't a strong recruiter, so if the new guy recruits hard, he's probably an upgrade.

I've been a Briles detractor for 2 years, and I really liked the offensive product Enos put out, so I'd say definitely an upgrade there.

8.5 out of 10, but the proof is in the pudding.

Agree with pretty much all of these.

I'd probably rate him about 7-8 to be conservative, but I agree with your points above.

Briles-for-Enos is potentially a push, but I'd argue it was worth it for Enos's QB coaching and development ability. Briles gets a nod on system familiarity and continuity as well as recruiting, but Enos's background and QB coaching acumen are pretty impressive.

I'd give him an 8

He handled the DC situation weirdly but ended up working out mostly. Jury is still out there.

OC he did pretty solid. Could have been much worse.

Our offense goes as KJ goes as long as he is here. So we have to have him develop as a QB and... I don't think he did this last year. Part of it was injuries, part of it wasn't having his safety blanket of Treylon.

The real proof in the pudding is red zone offense though. Briles was an absolute terror until he got inside the 20 and then things just sort of fell apart. I hate to knock the guy, because I do like Briles, but we sort of fell into the Houston Nutt "Okay... and on this play I need Matt Jones to pull something out of his ass" offense in the red zone.

I believe that has to do with how his offense is so dependent on rhythm. Inside the red zone was a different rhythm than when he was calling plays between the 20’s

I often called Briles’ offense a “20/20 offense” for that very reason.

Great between the 20s, not so much inside them.

I agree that he’s done a really good job this off-season with the coaches he’s bringing in (and the transfers as well)….which is all a stark contrast to one of the posts over on the Rant where that LATech dude says all there’s hires are trash is going to cause HY to walk away and get Pittman fired.

It requires better execution. Short and intermediate passing game become critical neither of which we were good at. And we weren't good enough at running to do so when the other team was prepared and coming for it
