re: Fire Mike
Don’t you work for the UA? Go do your job and put a dead hooker in his office or something.

re: Fire Mike
It’s okay stone.

Look man...I was so pissed for years that we HAD NOT hired Mike and were letting Pelphrey run the program. I wanted Mike, and still really like him as a person. I was ecstatic when we hired him.

For whatever reason, it just hasn’t worked out. I don’t hate him like I do Bert or Nutt. It’s weird, but he just hasn’t gotten it done.

re: Fire Mike
I think it didn't work out because Mike was too close with his assistants, and never had anyone around him with new ideas or anyone who knew how to make adjustments on the fly. It is weird because he had way more success at Mizzou in a much better basketball conference.

Time to rip off the band aid and cut our losses. A couple months ago I was all for one more year but not anymore.

I think you are probably correct.

This is probably what upsets me the most about his entire tenure here. He did not even come close to replicating what he did at Missouri.

Not true, He was on the cutting edge of a rapid style that worked for a period of time. His recruiting was suspect everywhere he has been however. But today, with the hand check fouls, etc it no longer works as well without superior talent. ANd he just cant get that.

Yep, he is stuck in a high-risk, high-reward mode of defense and refuses to adapt.

How many times over the last few years have we double-teamed someone only to leave someone else wide open? How many times have we full-court pressed only to give the opponent a 2-1 fast break with a wide open 3 or layup?

Too many.

The rules now favor offense and you're better off playing solid defense and forcing the opponent to take a contested shot or one they don't want to take.

How many hand check fouls have been called on MA's teams in the past 8 years?

This is has been a favorite talking point about Nolan/Mike since 96, but I can only recall a few hand check fouls, but it must be a common occurrence with as much as it is brought up.

It's a bunch of sheep just repeating what the next guy says... The fact is that if you have the players, this type of play works. All you have to do is look at Pitino and Huggins.

Mike has to recruit better and the fans need to put their money where their mouths are and quit letting players get bought out from under us.

re: Fire Mike
In the past few years, there were lots of fouls called that weren't 20 years ago. An aggressive D like we have will have to change a bit especially if you lack the talent that MA lacks concerning recruiting.

But carry on Dale..... and WPS!

That isn't really an answer to the data of hand check fouls under Anderson.

To expand, how many fouls have been called in the back court during the press? Now compared to then?

I'm just looking for the data to back claims I've seen made over and over, I would like to think they are not baseless statements made that parrots a narrative presented that isn't based in truth. So the data must be present to back it all up, but I haven't been able to find it so those who make the the claims must have access to it.

From what I've seen in the rule changes, they have had just as large of an impact as the slow it down, grind out every possession style of the Bennetts of the world as it has Anderson.

But I will agree in that I wish it was still 20 years ago when even the 4 corners coaches like Smith and Sutton had adapted to a game that had the ball going up and down the court to the tune of teams scoring 80+ every game over this stall for 25 seconds and run a set play strategy that is just agonizing to watch to the point the tournament is getting harder to watch casually each year as more and more of the "defensive minded" coaches are hired.

Give me the days of the running rebs, 40 minutes of hell, Princeton running their offense back door cut followed by more back door cuts, Knight's teams running the motion offense the way it was meant to be ran, etc. Back when the game actually had diversity in styles and philosophies which made March the best time of the year.

re: Fire Mike
I have never thought Mike would be a great head coach, but I hope we don't fire him until we have someone better in line to replace him. For all his faults, he's still better than most, and I'd rather keep him another year, then start over with the next Stan Heath.

This is what is perplexing to me and why I think the next hire is so critical. If we hire another guy who has had success somewhere else and he doesn't get it done either then are we just not the job we thought we were from 25 years ago? I'd like to think we still have the resources to be a consistent top 15-25 type team in college basketball but for whatever reason, like Tennessee football, we can't seem to put it all together.

re: Fire Mike
You never know what you're going to get with a new head coach, but this program needs a change. They need to get someone with some fire and energy. I understand Chaggie hasn't won anything yet, but they need to find someone kinda like Morris that gets it with recruiting and can actually develop players unlike what Mike does.
