Is there a message board that gohogs14 doesn't post on?

As stated in all these threads about seemingly every job that comes up, this is a 2-way deal. The school has to want Lane and he has to have an interest in the school. With FSU (and many of the other jobs over the past 2 years) I really didn’t think Kiffin was legitimately on the list. With Arkansas he ***could be*** on their list but I’d lean towards that being a job he wouldn’t be that interested in. I know it is SEC and it would have a big step up in pay. And there have been a few occasions where the Razorbacks have had some success. But that really doesn’t feel like a “fit” to me given they just went with the hot offensive-minded guy on the last hire. And $1-$1.5M in Paradise sounds a lot better than going to Arkansas.

College football coaching is such a year round job now… Lane isn’t spending it in Arkansas
quote:
Hard to see him going to Arkansas unless it is with the hopes of using it as a stepping stone to something better. I still don't see a great upside other than salary. He could stay a few more years at FAU and then land a big job the same as he could spending a few years at Arkansas. Arkansas just doesn't seem desirable. I have no idea to this day why Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas.

Didn't we have this same discussion just two years ago? Lane isn't leaving Boca Raton for Fayetteville.
quote:
The thing that irks me is we’re in Boca Raton they’re in freaking Arkansas. All things being equal no one would wan5 Arkansas. That’s why moving up condeeenxes is so advantageous. They shouldn’t be able to throw twice as much money at coaches than us. It’s all bc of the P5 and we’re a young school. We should have a program as good as theirs if no5 better

Arkansas does have Jerry Jones, Walmart and Tyson backing. Most people are surprised to know Forbes has Arkansas as the 16th most valuable program in college football. Northwest Arkansas is actually very nice and not like the rest of the state, lots of money being fused into it, it's one of the fastest growing places in the country and the Ozarks are pretty beautiful if you like the outdoors. Not saying I would take it over Boca but it's definitely one of the better places to live in the SEC. My feeling is that Arkansas is a good job but it's in a conference with a lot of equal or better jobs so it's tough to make much headway. The facilities and fan support are great and Nutt won the SEC West twice, Petrino went to a Sugar Bowl and finished #5 in the country so it's possible to have some success but hard to be consistent with it and currently Arkansas is in its worst stretch in school history so it will take some time to rebuild. You can typically have a top 25 recruiting class there but the problem with that is it's in the lower half of the SEC and you have Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the division. Kiffin really wanted the job when Petrino was hired but not sure he would now. He spent some time growing up as a kid in Fayetteville when Monte was on Lou Holtz's staff.

GoHogs is typically a pretty good diplomat.

I always go to whatever team we are playing in whatever sports message board to read their thoughts and gohogs14 is always there

Can attest.
I don't look at other teams boards super often, but every single time I have that poster is on there. Every time.

Definitely sounds like a crew not ready to lose him....which means its likely at worst a decent hire

I still remember the reaction of Wisconsin fans when we took Bert. "You... want our coach? Are you sure about that? Well... never let it be said that we Cheeseheads aren't friendly folks! Go right ahead!"

Felt very similar to when Nutt when to Ole Miss. We tired telling him, granted he had 2 good seasons but his true colors soon started to show and he was out the door.
While not an exact science getting a general gauge of a fan base reaction from potetnialy taking their coach is probably more reliable than many of the other vetting processes AD's use.

You can be blinded by the analytics in a coaching search. Real easily. Generally the die hard fans have a better idea of what is actually going on. We may not know the minutia of what is going on behind the scenes, but we have a pretty darn good grasp of the situation.

Yes, it was. We thought they were just putting up a front but they repeatedly said it was old dude (Alvarez?) who was the real coach.

I can't speak for social media, but fans up here were initially just kinda of taken aback. Then it turned to thanking me for Arkansas taking 'the drunk idiot' off their hands and regaled me with stories of his drunken stupidity around Madison.
I assumed sour grapes. I assumed incorrectly.

Dude... they were pumped he left lol.

Yeah all I remember was Wisconsin fans on their 247 board being glad he was gone. Maybe it was different on Twitter but on 247 they were not upset at all. I remember being very thrown off by that because I thought they’d be pissed.

Yeah, I think they were just more offended that he left for Arkansas of all places.

Yeah, I remember reading comments about his drinking and trolling the bars for college girls. I just wrote it off as sour grapes. Sure sounds like they at least had the drinking part right.

From the number of unrelated stories I've heard about him, the womanizing seems likely as well. I've heard details that I wish I could unhear.

Dude - you are in LaLa land.
Anyone with a brain could see who was running UW... all they had to do was pay attention.
The pathetic thing is Arkansas leadership couldn't see past the lather treatment Bert was applying to Jeff Long's egotistical arse.
Most of the fanbase couldn't either... it was pathetically naive, and the media was front and center of it all with their ignorance and unquestioning acceptance.
