No.. for one reason. And only one...
Is Recruiting an excuse?

Considering the type of offense we run, yes I expect it to be good every year. Great no.
I certainly expect it to not be a dumpster fire like it is this year

Good enough where our QB isn't getting killed? Yes.
I mean have we had a "great" O line even with Bert? Guess it was pretty damn good last year but they def. had issues two years prior.
The poor planing and recruiting is what bother's me most. It'd be one thing if they were just young, but it doesn't even look that way. It reminds me of a mumbo jumbo Houston Nutt line.
I thought Bert's cornertone was having his pipeline buttoned up. Does not appear to be the case at all.

No, too many variables.
Could be because of injury, or in this case too many busts recruited along the line. These guys weren't 2* diamonds in the rough, several were high 3-4* guys that many major programs wanted.
Of course replacing half the line in a year is never a good thing.
The line will appear to be vastly improved as the season goes along, they have the best D-lines in the conference behind them now.

Yes. Especially when you talk about how you build your program from the inside out. It's what B brands the program on, so yes it should be solid every year.

This, in addition to his track record at Wisconsin for fielding good to great offensive lines. In lieu of repeating it, I'll quote what I wrote in the Froholdt thread.
quote:
To be fair, we actually have recruited pretty well on paper on the OL. What's bit us in the arse is the fact that our OL signees aren't getting developed properly and/or busting out altogether.
Guys like Merrick, Wallace, Kirkland and Ragnow were all 4 stars and had multiple offers from great programs. Reeve Koehler was a 4 star. John McClure (2013 class) was a two time JUCO All-American and the #5 junior college guard in the country.
Ragnow and Kirkland were the only ones who panned out and were as good as advertised. Merrick and Wallace are works in progress and may not pay off until they're upperclassmen, if at all. Koehler and McClure never saw the field.
Not to go chicken little, but when your supposed positional strongpoint is offensive line and you're starting a graduate transfer and a converted DT, that's a legitimate problem.
