You really gotta get over the top 10 record thing, no coaches have good records vs top 10 unless you’re Kirby Smart or Nick Saban. He’s got a winning record vs 11th-25th

Hell Kiffin got his first RANKED road win the SEC just this year.

Yeah you gotta get over all the reasons Penn State paid 50 million for him to not coach for them anymore.

Really when you think about, if you ignore all that he's a perfect replacement for Pittman.

I also hear Brian Kelly is available, he's coached for a NC before.

Bert was different due to his record with hiring assistants who were moving up the ladder to be competent coordinators and head coaches and his troll energy and sound bites were amusing till they weren't.

He was also able to over come the two hurdles in the B1G to win the damn thing several years at Wisconsin.

And Penn St is going to have to hire a coordinator because they’re looked upon shittely by the coaching world.

Petrino still has it. Can put together an elite offense. Buy him a defense and we are scary good.

This. All the other stuff is smoke to negotiate the best terms and conditions with him.

Strong beat a 9-3 UM.
Again, so did Petrino. Petrino also beat 10-3 Florida State 63-20 while they were ranked #2.

The kind of games you want to excuse petrino for losing strong was winning.
The losses in those 10+ win seasons you're hanging your hat on were to Syracuse, UConn and UCF. Not to mention the back to back 7-6 seasons in the Big East Strong had just prior.

Regardless, all of this to say that the "immediate step back" is being misrepresented and exaggerated like just about every other point people try to bring up.

Idk how much of that I can believe. By all accounts Pittman was a beloved member of every staff he was on and highly respected amongst coaches in general. Maybe the stresses of being the head guy changed him, but I'd have to see proof.

If the numbers weren't almost identical to his last time here I'd be willing to call it nostalgia, but everything from yardage to points scored to turnovers to penalties is all the same. The only difference is the defense and it's a massive one.

For example, in 2010 (statistically slightly the better offense of 10 and 11) we averaged 482.5 yards of offense per game. This year we're averaging 484.4. Insanely similar. The run/pass splits aren't the same, but what we've lost in passing yardage we've gained in rushing production for obvious reasons.

In 2010 we averaged 36.5 points per game. This year we average 35.5.

In 2010 we averaged 7.9 penalties per game for 63.9 yards. This year we're averaging 6.9 penalties for 62.6 yards.

In 2010 we averaged 1.8 turnovers per game. This year we average 1.7.

It's almost comical, but is it nostalgia if it's literally the same?

Top 10 offense got us in a chokehold. Combined with DJ Durkin… and I’ll be strangle baiting,

But he got all them losses this season! I mean he didn’t keep a worthless coordinator after 2 previous years of shite performance, because he had mad flow and sick rhymes. But let’s blame Petrino for that, because it’s easier than just saying I don’t like Petrino.

You think he’d able to lure Durkin he’s never hired any top assistants

Is that before the flag party against Mississippi State? If so, that number significantly drops to an avg of 5.5 yards sans that game. Just more indication that, much like 2010, if our defense was even just middle of the pack we'd probably have many more wins this season even with our offensive late game sputters and screw ups.

We have put up plenty of points to win most games. We just can't stop teams from scoring, seemingly, almost every drive.

I will grant that our negative turnover margin has killed us too though.

Wouldn't be Petrino luring him. It'd be Franklin.

I think he is about to be jobless. And if he works with Bobby, whom he has worked with before he would have 2-3 years at the minimum to build his reputation back up and get a new job.

And that’s where Bobby is forced to eat this medicine of a smaller check to get a top DC and take a back door retention bonus.

Other schools see Durkin’s value, why would he choose us over other offers. Plus I’m sure he’ll have head coach offers as well.

Overpaying. We had two of the top paid coordinators under Pittman.

I’ve heard Maryland wants him back, but I’ve also heard he is untouchable after the death of the kid and losing the locker room.
