Anyone know much about Cignetti, the Indiana coach? This is just his 2nd year there and he's 16-2. That's all I know about him.

He might be the best active coach in college football. No exaggeration.

He signed a contract with a buyout of 12 mil after this season.

if it's not Petrino, it'll probably be Lashlee with Gus as OC and wanna be HC.

Why?

It is a fallacy the HCs need Arkansas ties. Broyles, Holtz, and Petrino had zero ties to Arkansas. That is the majority of the top 5 coaches in Arkansas History.

Stong Texas recruiting ties is also a galaxy as the worst HC in Arkansas history had the strongest ties to Texas.

I don't think it has to be. I'm just reading the tea leaves. I may be wrong, but it seems as if a lot of people have been pushing Lashlee. I'll sit back and wait. Hopefully, they knock it out of the park this time.

If there is anything to the chatter about Kenny Dillingham being interested, I'd be 100% behind that hire.

If Cignetti were to leave on his accord, he would have to pay damages at the school starting at $13 million in the first year of the deal and that amount goes down on an annual basis.

November it drops to $10million.

I'm seriously asking for someone to explain Lashlee to me.

I get SMU navigated a gauntlet of a schedule last year to be blown out of the playoffs in the first round by Penn State.

Currently he's 2-2 with glaring holes on a roster that supposedly has a larger NIL budget than Arkansas.

I just didn't see the hype. While SMU is a private school and the information is not public, there is likely a large buyout attached to the contract extension he signed after last year.

Explain it to me.

There’s a very large buyout attached that we won’t touch. People just run with a connection to Arkansas they see or know about.

I’ve been wrong before, but know enough about this that I’ve always said we would not get Rhett. I still stick by that.

If we paid such a large buyout, the options of Cignetti or someone else would make much more sense from a coaching perspective. We aren’t going to dish out $15-$20mil and buy a coach out. It’s just a waste of money in today’s game.

But I’m sure media and other people locally will run with Lashlee…just because he is from Springdale.

I’m not infatuated myself so I’m with you there. Also hiring another SMU coach is off putting

I get he's from Springfield but I see people throw his name out there like he is an offensive genius and not some one running the same 20 year old college offense.

I'm not seeing excellent evaluations and development from his players and team this year.

If it's really a backdoor pipe dream of getting Gus also as OC just say that and count me out lol. The whole offense is predicated on a QB talent they find once every 10 years.

Also Cignetti has given vibes he's so pissed at the world for over looking him until age 60 he's going to stay at Indiana out of spite.

He's being paid well and their expectations aren't going to run him off before retirement, so honestly he'd be a fool to jump ship at this point imo.

He has it made at Indiana.

I think last year he said “Google Me” when he was asked about his style and if he wins.

If we make the right hire do you believe we could see an uptick in NIL?

So, what is the repellent? Lack of booster support/money? Lack of instate talent? Location?

All the above. But you forgot:

-Loss of pipeline recruiting when A&M and Mizzou joined the SEC
-Meddling boosters and GOBNers
-Fanbase with high expectations
-Athletic Dept not committed to winning

Top 2 names to watch will be Kenny Dillingham and Rhett Lashlee.

Neither of those are excite me, and I don’t think they are great coaches (probably average), but they would be great for us considering how disgraceful our football program currently is. Average is the goal at this point
