Its really not fair because u r factoring the most overrated recruiting class in the history of college basketball that he had to take to get the job its a double standard.
You have to give mike a 3 year cushion on apr alone
It's been SIX YEARS. I mean Jamie Dixon has freakin TCU on the verge of the tournament in his first year. TCU!

And we're on the verge of our 2nd NCAAT appearance in 3 years, after a DECADE of absolute TRASH.
I ONLY support his firing if this season tanks and he misses the NCAAT altogether which should never happen with the position this team is in even after the Missouri loss.

This sounds like a thread I saw over on Tardville and basically it was posed that if CMA just makes it to the NCAAT that in essence is the benchmark for maintaining his job as a coach here and defining true success of the Razorback basketball program. Evidently there a number of fans satisfied with that but I never will be. Again if Arkansas basketball is going to attain the level of interest, success, and respect from the rest of the country that it once had when we truly fielded good teams (ancient history I know), it will take more than simply making it to the NCAAT.
As it now stands I'll remain just a ho hum fan and can at least save some money by not going to the games.

IM not saying that is all we should hope for but we aren't one of the top 20 teams in the country this year, our best two players are jucos and we have a shitload of talent coming in. Isiah Joe is better than anyone webrought in this year and he's the worst recruit we have in 2018

The problem with your thought process is that you are implying that by someone not wanting him to get fired after this year with a NCAA appearance that in turn it is what I'm satisfied with. He will have to continue to improve from there for me to be satisfied. If you believe that not wanting someone to be fired believes you are satisfied with the said individual then you are looking at things in a very black and white perspective.

Thanks for the compliment that I'm young.
Certainly when it comes to Arkansas basketball patience is something you must an ample supply of since it has been so long since the program has done anything of significance. But I don't worry about it too much.

If we make it to the NCAAT this season that will be two out of six years CMA made it. So what would the improvement need to be from here on out? Is making the tournament every other year or so enough for him to stay here as long as he wants? Does making the NCAAT this year buy him another two or three years? I'm just curious as to what fans really think he needs to do to be able to stay here and it appears to be that so long as he gets the team to the NCAAT every few years then that's going to be good enough to keep him here as long as he wants the job.

The program will have to have a crop of instate kids restore the success and prestige going forward. It appears this type of talent could be in the upcoming 3 recruiting classes.
It's not much different than when Sutton took over in that regard, even then Sutton's off the court dependencies had the program in decline before he crawled to Kentucky because he was too drunk to walk.
Nolan actually went outside the state to rebuild the program, however, basketball recruiting is a different game today than it was then. Nolan's undoing was in large part to the ncaa's witch hunt that stopped the momentum when Sunday and Pate (RIP) was forced to transfer. Followed by catching shrapnel from the football and track program's cheating, but he also burned bridges and created enemies by passing over the instate guy for a guy out of state who was as best equal in talent.
Making a change for the sake of change will just ensure a cycle of mediocrity to the equivalent of Tennessee in football, facts and truth of the matter is the program is winning more games and recruiting the best it has this millennium under coach Anderson. If a change is made the next coach will take over a program in much better shape in all aspects compared to what Heath and Pelphrey took over or left behind.

I would need something like a Sweet 16 the following year to be happy.

No, if he missed the tourney next year I would still be fine with him leaving. Barring some incredible run in the tourney.

It buys him one year for me.

Everyone is going to be different obvious but I just think you need to be careful trying to say people support Mike just because they don't want him fired. I can still be on the fence about him but not want him fired. I just don't care for this all or none approach.

Mike has earned himself a nice raise and an increased buyout thanks to the teams performance in the last two games.
