he was a good coach. he needed to be a better staff manager and builder. lack of recruiting high end players that didnt have an arkansas or Mike Anderson family connection made us very up and down because we were always missing a piece.

not running an offense was the norm.

this wasnt working anymore. he brought us out of the gutter and hopefully musselman outs us in the tourney

Because of the bolded above, I still believe he was slightly above average myself. And I liked him, still do. Hated how it ended, but it needed too.

All of these things above are a part of the job of being a high level ncaa BB coach...

Mike sucked and got fired for that. Chad was hired because his resume and what we were willing to

That could be true, if Morris' college resume was decent. Think about it, he's never been an even mediocre coach.

I doubt that anyone knows for certain what is going to happen. There are several games remaining and everything is pure speculation at this point.

However, if there is no significant improvement, I will be very surprised if he is retained.

I don't think he'll be retained even if we somehow beat WKU. O-fer in SEC play two years straight would set an all time worst record at Arkansas and just about break the record for all SEC teams. Right now Vandy is the only one in history with a worse streak.

Exceptions to the conventional rules HAVE to be made when there's historically bad results like that. There is no way an AD can defend it, and HY knows it would be his arse next in line.

He made the move on MA, who was above average but still not meeting his expectations. The fans and media hadn't spoiled on MA nearly as bad as Morris, so it's not like he was overly pressured into it from outside forces. He's already shown he has the guts to make the moves HE deems necessary for the program.

Morris isn't even HIS hire, so he's not in the position of worrying about his appearance of hiring the wrong candidate and admitting he made a mistake. He can clean his hands of the whole thing and walk away without any personal ramifications; in fact he'd be cheered.

When all of the above is considered it seems like a foregone conclusion to me. The argument to keep him seems much more difficult than the opposite.

Although I agree with you overall, what do we do with the buyouts of his staff, himself, etc.

That is a hard pill to swallow considering we just did the CBB stuff, MA stuff, etal.

I am of the opinion that if he wins against WKU and Miss State he stays another season because of that. There is some restlessness that we having had even prior to CBB gone however.

My main connection to the ptb believes that they are trying everything possible to not have to fire him... Anything acceptable and checking the temps of fans, donors, BOT etc.

I'm also hearing the same, but that means they know it's basically a foregone conclusion that he's gone unless they find something to hang onto.

Wins against WKU and MSU or Mizzou would certainly match that criteria, but it's hard to see that happening. Without that they won't find that reason they're looking for to keep him.

I've also heard that there's work going on to soften the blow of the buyouts as much as possible, either through legal means or donations. Even if that doesn't happen they're considering it a necessary evil as they're already seeing the bottom line take a hit and feel a lot of pressure to fill the expanded stadium.

In fact, the stadium expansion may be the one thing that pushes it over the edge, while most people think the opposite (in the sense that we spent a ton of money and don't want to put the buyout on top of it).

Unlike the past situations, there's not a lot of infighting amongst the BOT and influential donors concerning removing Morris. Most everyone is on board, while the few "holdouts" agree he has to go but worry about the financials.

Of course, that's all within our current situation. If we beat WKU and get an SEC win he'll get another year.

that's the logical play. any sign of life buys a year. if we spiral further down I cant imagine not making a move.

Yeah he’s gotta beat Mississippi State. The rest will be bloodbaths I’m afraid.
