I would assume Georgia, Bama, ole miss are all destined for playoff/NY6 bowls and we technically are the highest ranked SEC school behind them. Granted attendance draws are factored in also, but here is the bowl hierarchy after the NY6 and conference opponents. Payouts aren't released yet so are somewhat dated but all generally close.

Citrus Bowl(Big Ten) 8.2 mill
Texas Bowl(Big 12) 6.4 mill
Outback Bowl(Big Ten) 6.4 mill
Music City Bowl(Big Ten) 5.7 mill
Gator Bowl(ACC) 5.3 mill
Dukes Mayo Bowl(ACC) 4.8 mill
Liberty Bowl(Big 12) 4.7 mill
Independence Bowl(ACC) 2.2 mill
Birmingham Bowl(American) 1.37 mill

You do realize it’s paid to the conference and not the school right?

Of course I do. You do realize there is still hierarchy and that not every university gets an even split of bowl Payouts, right?

Some of the bowls available are $275k payouts. How much does it cost for the planes, hotels and meals for a week in these places?

It is an even split for what’s put in the pot. Which is what I’ve always heard, I just didn’t realize you get a percentage off the top for your bowl game.

They don't? (Genuinely asking, I thought the SEC split it evenly)

So if we got $6m and 10% off the top it would be $600k straight into the bank of the UA. Except that would just cover travel, food and hotels.

there is a % considering travel costs, etc... then basically equal pay via bowl payouts.

Or that is how it had been done in the past...

Taken from a SDS article unless it has recently changed

"After covering a specified amount of travel expenses, most conferences divide all bowl revenue equally between full members (with an equal share calculated in for the conference office), with the SEC being the notable exception.
The SEC exception is for bowl games with receipts of $4,000,000 – $5,999,999, the participating team retains $1.5 million, plus a travel allowance determined by SEC. For bowl games with receipts of $6 million or more (including all College Football Playoff games), the participating team receives $2.025 million, plus a travel allowance determined by the SEC. If an SEC team makes it to the championship game, it receives another $2.125 million, plus travel allowance."

SEC gives us a travel allowance and we either make $1.5 mill or $2.00 mill. depending on where we land in the hierarchy. Less than $4 mill payouts i assume get the basic pot allotment.

Contrary to what you may believe, making more money for the SEC usually nets your university more money

The below is from an SEC document detailing this year's SEC payouts

"For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance of less than $1,500,000, the participating institution shall retain $1,050,000, plus a travel allowance

For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance between $1,500,000 and $3,999,999, the participating institution shall retain $1,325,000, plus a travel allowance

For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance between $4,000,000 and $5,999,999, the participating institution shall retain $1,525,000, plus a travel
allowance

For bowl games providing receipts which result in a balance of $6,000,000 or more and all College Football Playoff games, the participating institution shall receive $2,050,000 ($2,050,000 if the SEC team is a participant in the College Football Playoff semi-finals game; an additional $2,150,000 if the SEC team is also a participant in the College Football Playoff championship game, which determines the National
Champion), plus a travel allowance "

So in effect
Bowl Payout <$1.5M, school gets $1.05M
Bowl Payout $1.5M-$3.99M, school gets $1.325M
Bowl Payout $4.0M-5.99M, school gets $1.525M
Bowl Payout <$6.0M, school gets $2.05M
National Championship Game gets school another $2.15M

So net to Arkansas would look something like this:

Citrus Bowl(Big Ten) 2.0 mill
Texas Bowl(Big 12) 2.0 mill
Outback Bowl(Big Ten) 2.0 mill
Music City Bowl(Big Ten) 1.5 mill
Gator Bowl(ACC) 1.5 mill
Dukes Mayo Bowl(ACC) 1.5 mill
Liberty Bowl(Big 12) 1.5 mill
Independence Bowl(ACC) 1.325M
Birmingham Bowl(American) 1.05M

I didn’t realize the Texas Bowl payout was up there with Outback. I thought it was closer to Liberty Bowl range.

Same. This makes the Texas bowl look a little more appealing. I always gave it a middle to low-middle tier bowl rank. Looks like its more of a high-middle tier.

Texas bowl and Music City are closest to Fayetteville at roughly 8ish hrs, but could argue a lot fans could be drawn to the Citrus in Orlando especially given a strong Big 10 opponent like Michigan State is possible.

I would guess the Texas bowl will also be enticing since it will likely feature someone like Baylor or Oklahoma.

Music City would likely feature Wisconsin or Iowa.

Could argue all are good options for fans.

Texas Bowl, Music City, and Liberty have the biggest draws of fans for lower tiered bowls imho.

Texas has the largest alumni base outside of AR
Music City is still close enough for travel
Liberty gets the NE area crowd who don't always go to home games at RRS

The largest crowd for the Texas Bowl and Liberty bowl in a long time was when AR played at them with Bert...

Arkansas is likely headed to the Liberty, Texas and Music city bowls. If they are in Florida then Arkansas fans will have a poor showing as usual. Arkansas isn't conditioned to save money or plan for major bowls as razorback fans aren't use to that level of consistent success. It is why Big 10 schools like Wisconsin always have large crowds in the Florida or warm climate bowls. They treat it as a vacation while Arkansas fans expect the liberty bowls and drive back home when it's over.

I do believe we will be in Florida this year however...

And we will travel fairly well, just not like we would to a closer game.

It will be interesting overall how the SEC chooses the bowls this year. With Covid etc, it would seemingly be smart to have schools closer for travel etc.

But...

Rev, Covid is over. Have you even been watching college football?

Stadiums are packed. No masks, except for a few Covidians.

What the hell do the bowl games have to do with Covid bruh?

Also had no ideal that the Texas bowl payout was so large. And there would be a certain appeal if we ended up matched against OU. Imagine wiping the green off the field with OU AND Texas in the same season, along with the other monkeys off the Razorback back this year.
However, and it's a big one, it falls on Tuesday night after New Years when a new work years starts, and kids are back in school etc. Being on Tuesday night would seriously hurt attendance IMHO.

Sports radio this morning was trying to convince people that the Texas Bowl was most desirable (think think they just wanted to reduce travels expenses).
