That tweet about our RB room this season got me thinking. Who would you say is our best RB since DMac? I've widdled down to these 3:

Rocket
Knile Davis
Alex Collins

I'd probably pick Knile just because of his breakaway speed. Though Collins' vision and Rocket's versatility are hard to give up.

People forget how good Collins was.

He wasn’t the fastest, biggest, or strongest, but he had incredible field vision and cutback abilities. He also kept his feet moving better than any runner I’ve seen in a Hog uniform, and thus was great at squeezing out yards after contact.

He’s also only the 3rd back in school history (after Cowins and DMac) to rush for 1000 yards in 3 consecutive seasons.

Alex Collins
You could tell from day 1 he was a stud. His vision for lanes and his patience following blocks was next level as soon as he got here. He's my easy pick.

Edit: I don't think Feral and I have disagreed on anything in years.

Alex Collins

He is the third best back that has come through the program numbers wise. 3 - 1,000 yard rushing seasons in only 3 seasons at Arkansas.

I’d probably say knile then Collins. Collins had a better line but knile had a much better passing game that teams had to be prepared for. People forget just how good davis was in 2010.

Collins
He could get those yards when needed.

While I don't blame him for coasting his final year, Knile gets knocked for that. You don't struggle to get carries your last season and all of a sudden get PT in the NFL.

I gotta go with Rocket. Faster than AC

Davis didn’t have the best ball security either. Hell neither did Collins now that i think about it that’s actually what costed Collins and Davis in the nfl

Collins is my pick as well. He wasn't as flashy as the other choices but he was a great working man's RB. He consistently got the yards he needed to get and he had sixth sense when it came to finding running lanes.

All he was lacking in flash was top end speed. He was super shifty, could run through guys, had a good burst.

I thought Bert put too much weight on him, but I seem to remember him staying pretty healthy, so it's hard to criticize.

Rawleigh Williams deserves a mention. Just not as memorable since his career was shorter.

Some career stats...

Avg per Rush

Sanders 6.0

Dennis Johnson 5.9

J. Williams 5.7

Collins 5.6

M. Smith 5.6

Boyd 5.6

R. Williams 5.4

K. Davis 5.3

Whaley 4.7

Whaley and Davis were both overrated to me, especially Whaley

Davis had a nice 2010 season, but had the advantage of playing in the best offense we've ever had. He was more just a speed guy, didn't offer much else in terms of a true RB. In the NFL he was mainly a return specialist.

Davis spent a good deal of his career with injuries.

Yeah. We were fortunate that he had that amazing 2010 season. Many thought that Wingo would do better initially due to Davis coming in from HS healing from an injury before he’d ever suited up as a Hog. Loved watching Davis in our offense though. Those were some freaking amazing times.
