In recent history, Arkansas has struggled to find a consistent, productive power forward, and that may be an understatement. Because of this, filling front court depth alongside returning star Daniel Gafford was a priority this offseason for Razorbacks coach Mike Anderson. Incoming forward Reggie Chaneyappears polished enough to push for playing time next year as a freshman.

Moving from Tulsa (Okla.) to Frisco (Tex.) to Findlay Prep in Las Vegas (Nev.), Chaney’s high school career has been a process. The 6-7 forward wasn’t always a highly-coveted prospect, but as grew as an all-around player the schools came calling. During his junior year, Chaney put up 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks, helping Findley Prep to a 33-4 record. The next season, he contributed 13.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals, leading his squad to a 32-5 mark as a senior. Like many high school hoopers these days, Chaney spent his offseason on the summer ball circuit as a member of RM5 Elite in the Nike EYBL league. He averaged 11.4 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 63 percent from the floor in the summer of 2017.

Rated No. 89 in the nation, No. 1 in Texas and as the No. 24 power forward in the country by 247Sports, Chaney racked up offers from numerous prestigious programs, including Texas A&M, Wichita State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and VCU. He officially visited Fayetteville in September of 2017 and verbally committed on October 28. In the end, Chaney kept his word and signed with the Hogs.
