He called a friend of mine today, and spoke of having some sort of surgery in the past few days. Also spoke of not making much in his minor league contract, but having plans to do well in baseball.

Its the same shoulder he injured on that slide to 3rd. He will only be out a couple of months. He's just finally getting it fixed so he can play in rhe field next season for his draft status.

Arkansas righty Elijah Trest was held back by command woes in the spring, but he really turned the corner this summer, posting a 19-4 K-BB mark in 12 innings. He looks poised to join Beeter as a shutdown closer at a power program next fall. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Trest took a big step forward after moving to the third-base side of the rubber, making him a more uncomfortable at-bat for righthanded hitters and helping him unlock his command. He did a better job getting ahead in counts, throwing 29 first-pitch strikes against 23 first-pitch balls for the Foresters.

“He really came on, and his fastball sits at 95,” Pintard said. “He has a real feel to pitch, his changeup really developed this summer, to go along with a solid-average slider with lateral tilt. And his changeup is going to be an average pitch, probably this year. The fastball is plus with big-time movement — he can’t throw a ball straight, you almost have to just set up in the middle and let it eat. He really competes too — really competes.”

• Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs played for and coached under Pintard, so it’s no surprise that the Hogs sent multiple quality prospects to Santa Barbara this summer. Rising sophomore righty Jacob Burton has a smaller, athletic frame (6-foot, 185 pounds) that Pintard likened to David Cone’s physique, and his quick arm produced consistent 90-94 heat, topping out at 95 regularly. Like Trest, Burton benefited from a move to the right side of the rubber this year, helping him make big strides with his command. His slider is still hit and miss, but it has good action to it and should become a major weapon as he learns to land it for a glove-side strike more often, to help keep hitters off his fastball.

“He has more of a straighter fastball than Trest, but the arm, you can say this: It’s one of the quickest arms I’ve seen in all my years of coaching,” Pintard said. “It’s a blur — you can’t see it. And I’ve been coaching a long time.”

Had a good feeling about Trest from the first time I saw him on the mound. Can't wait to see this kid grow.

Sidenote: Fletcher and Cronin have been killing it so far. Would bet those are the first two of ours to make it to AA.

They’re playing 14 innings but OU “wins” 4-2 after 9.

Still got 5 months until the season starts but obvious we have a lot to work on based on tonight. Hard to really tell when a different pitcher is out there each inning though.

It’s a bone in the wrist - in case anyone else besides me was wondering what the heck a hamate bone is.
