In case y'all didn't know, Dave Gearhart stepped down July 31. The search so far has been narrowed down to 3 finalists.

Dr. April Mason, Kansas St

She attended the Overseas School of Rome in Italy before going on to earn her bachelor's degree in biology from Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio. She has a master's degree in plant physiology and a doctorate in foods and nutrition from Purdue University, which recognized her as one of its 2015 Distinguished Women Scholars, an honor that is given to outstanding alumnae of the university.

Dr. Joseph E. Steinmetz, Ohio St

Dr. Steinmetz earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Central Michigan University and his doctorate at Ohio University.

Joseph E. Steinmetz became Ohio State’s chief academic officer on July 1, 2013. As executive vice president and provost, he oversees the administration, coordination, and development of all academic functions of the university.

Dr. Jeffrey Vitter

Dr. Jeffrey Vitter is the provost and executive vice chancellor and the Roy A. Roberts Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas. As provost, Dr. Vitter is the chief academic and operations officer for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.

His educational degrees include a B.S. with highest honors in mathematics in 1977 from the University of Notre Dame; a Ph.D. in computer science under Prof. Donald Knuth in 1980 from Stanford University; and an M.B.A. in 2002 from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. His hometown is New Orleans, La. He and his wife Sharon (née Weaver, KU Pharmacy '78) have three children.

None of these people move the needle for me. I don't see any track record of success pushing a university to where we want to be. No internal cantidates, in fact no apparent Arkansas connections from any of the three, which we have had with our last two, John A White and Hollywood Dave. No apparent Southern connections even. Not impressed so far

I'll go with Mason. If nothing else it will be a nice shot in the arm for our food science program.

I call it the "Grass is always greener" syndrome. From the old saying the grass is always greener in your neighbor's yard. We have plenty of fine academic minds who would make great Chancellors but that urge to look far and wide when you don't have to...

I feel like Chancellor is largely about fundraising. Where it may be beneficial to already know some alumni

You need some new blood that isn't from Arkansas.

The incestuous nature of some of the relationships up there has led to some horribly unethical treatment of some of your students.

One such case is soon going to cause some real blow-back to one of your deans, one of the major administrative offices of the university and other high-ranking folks. All of this on Gearhart's watch. Too much crony stuff and GOB power

Good Lord, I had to click this link twice. I saw the pic and thought it was the thread about young girls missing.

In no way am I making fun of our kids missing, but it sent me for a freaking loop for sure seeing that pic above.

Vitter would have been my pick of the 3.

Degrees from Notre Dame, Duke, and Stanford are pretty strong. Plus having a brother in the US Senate wouldn't hurt, although what I know of David Vitter is that he's rather sleazy.

Guess Ole Miss can have him then.

Next.

Here is the answer.. "After the meeting, board Chairman Ben Hyneman said he is looking for the next UA chancellor's pay to be close to the middle of what schools in the Southeastern Conference pay their university leaders." "We're probably going to have to pay more than what we've been paying," Hyneman said.

Just for fun.

Light Jet:

Well its not chump change exactly, but saying we're looking to give you an average salary compared to other schools won't exactly lure the best and brightest.
