Been saying it all year. Great guard play wasted this year by a disgustingly unproductive frontcourt. A 6'5'' white dude out-rebounded Ewin and Pringle combined.

Knox has also disappeared. His entire stat line tonight consisted of 1 rebound and 2 fouls. That's it.

You seem to be taking this hard.

How are ya'll not accustomed to this yet?

Guess what...we're getting our arse whooped next weekend at MSU as well. We are 7-22 or something all time in the Hump. Just is what it is.

We are not gonna be good until we have 14-4/15-3 conference season.

We'll be #1 in the polls all. It'll be hard to miss.

They'll be lucky to survive the first weekend. Watching teams like Zona and Duke we just don't have the frontcourt to run with them.

Kenny Payne can show himself out after this year. Continued lackluster big play and that's his job.

Every big man we have gotten has regressed in their game.

This looks like another 8/9 seed in tournament.

They lost six games and the schedule gets tougher.

Not really

Just a bad loss at home. Season isn't over yet.

None of this matters unless Cal gets these kids to play sound defense.

Can't always rely on your offense. But you can control effort on defense. We make it way too easy on teams. And it doesn't help that our big men don't block or even contest shots.

Pringle needs to play 10 mins or less a game. He's the most worthless big I've ever seen in my life. Have to go with Ewin and Brazil, with Knox playing the 4 from time to time.

Guards have to be better at keeping ball in front of them, communicate better, and close out harder. It doesn't faze a shooter if you stop 4 feet short of them and put a hand up. You have to get up in their grill and put your hand in their face.

Frustrating team. All the talent, but up to this point they haven't show me they are willing to do the little things to be a contender.

I hope that switch will turn on for these guys, but we're getting deeper into the season, and not much has changed. And that doesn't bode well.

Agreed, this team can’t play defense worth a broke dick! Offense has an off night like they did tonight and it really shows just how porous our defense really is. If they don’t find some defense and the bigs start playing like grown arse men then we won’t make it out of the first weekend. I’ve been disappointed in Pringle this year, I remember watching him last year and him looking dominant but that version of him never made it to the Hill

The problem is I don’t think it’s just an effort problem on defense. We do have mental lapse plays but I don’t think in general we play with low effort, especially last night. Our guards aren’t physically imposing enough to lock down other teams guards. So we try to let one of our bigs roam inside when we’re playing against a 5 out offense.

2 problems come from this… our big is helping contest the shot instead of finding his man, so we give up a lot of 2nd chance points.

The other thing is teams are using the clogged lane against us and creating a wall offs/ screens for cutters.

As good as Acuff and Thomas are offensively, they aren’t great man defenders. Maybe they would be in a year or two, maybe even later this year, but they aren’t right now.

Everything falls from that. Go back and look at how effective Duke was against us in the 2nd half by just having their guards man up on us and deny drives. We could barely even attempt to set an effective on ball screen with how they started containing us

Basically, I wish it was just an effort problem because that’s an easier fix than what we actually have in front of us.

I will say as a huge fan of Meleek that he absolutely can’t go silent offensively on us like that because he’s not providing enough defensively to make up for it

I've said this before and I'll say it again

Until Cal recruits some dogs down low, his coaching style will continue to have holes in it.

As great as Acuff is he and Meleek both get lost on defense at times.

Both Knox and Pringle need to sit more.

I think Pringle could be a dog if you just give him his man and tell him to go to work.

This free for all, switch everything, bail out your guards every possession style just leaves him looking lost out there
