What did the coaching staff do wrong?

Bolton and Polk have no business playing D1 baseball.

And then there's this from DVH

Slavens continues his terrible approach at the plate game after game, year after year.

If McLoughlin stays on a tear then you can’t bench him. You can’t bench Diggs or a healthy Wagner. Slavens will be the odd man out. Could be a huge silver lining with the Wagner injury.

Hopefully Rowlands injury is minor. He’s not good but better than the walk-on level bat that started last night.

Got to figure coll is about to get he’s shot at SS after the Bolton benching last night.

I think Stovall will come around. I know his stats are similar to slavens but he doesn’t have the structural problem with his swing that slavens does.

Oddly enough he was one of the clubhouse leaders in 2021 in BA in SEC games. He hit .284 in conference play that year, which was 3rd best in the lineup behind Cayden Wallace and Cullen Smith.

Last year he fell off a cliff and hit .214 in SEC games, which was 2nd worst in the lineup (Robert Moore hit .213).

He’s at .200 in SEC games right now, which is 3rd worst and only better than Rowland (.184) and Bolton (.105).

My honest opinion is that pitchers figured out that he’s a first pitch swinger and to pitch him low and away, hence why his walks are down so much.

I think Bolton is on an extremely short leash.

In the postgame PC, DVH referenced Bolton’s defensive miscues several times as missed opportunities to get out of an inning and that they led to Georgia being able to plate a run(s) they otherwise wouldn’t have.

If you have a glove you can make up for poor plate production (see Robert Moore last year), but Bolton has struggled both offensively and defensively this year.

Bolton is admittedly a better fielder than Coll (DVH said as much last night), but it feels like DVH is reaching the point where he’s willing to eat some potential field miscues just to get some pop in the 9 hole and generate some sort of production from that spot.

Defense will tend to be prioritized, but at some point it becomes moot. It reminds me of Graham this year. Coll could provide offense to a part of the order that desperately needs it.

The problem with Polk is not just his bat. Rowland is a *much* better defensive catcher.

Polk has had quite a few passed balls (as well as wild pitches which could’ve been scored PB’s) this year, including one that scored what was ultimately the deciding run last night. Polk has had 5 passed balls this year, whereas Rowland has had 0.

Rowland isn’t exactly Yadier Molina, but he’s been good behind the dish and has been pretty good at patrolling the basepaths.

I'm really perplexed at how good our record is. Our stats state that our record shouldn't be as good as it is.

Hopefully, when Tygart and Wegner comes back, and if DVH keeps Bolton on the bench, we can sort of elevate a little bit more.

Slavens is a huge disappointment. He should be hitting better, but at this point, it is what it is. I don't think it's asking for too much for our entire lineup to be .240 and above in SEC play.

As we all know, baseball is a cruel SOB. We very well might look back on all of this and reflect on how we figured everything out. I can hope at least.

You’re not wrong.

In terms of SEC ranking, we’re 7th in BA, 9th in slugging, 7th in OBP, 8th in walks, 8th in home runs, 7th in ERA, 13th in opposing BA, 13th in strikeouts, 13th in hits allowed, 7th in walks allowed, 8th in runs (and earned runs) allowed, and 8th in fielding percentage.

With the exception of a few pitching categories, we’re squarely in the middle of the SEC statistically yet we’re 1st in the West right now and are largely finding a way to win games.

Frankly, I think this has been one of DVH’s best coaching jobs.

That's why I've had the tone I've had for most of the year. Thrilled with the results but I just can't garner any confidence in this year's squad. Either we're overrated as hell or college baseball is really down this year.

Lineup for tonight. Coll in for Bolton, Rowland still out, Slavens bumped down in the order, Mac on the bump.

Goldstien paints the plate well. We need to pick our pitches well tonight.

Get a few runs back here Hogs. We have to chase Goldstein or at least get him uncomfortable.

Find yourself a woman that loves you as unconditionally as DVH loves McEntire.

Coll made a sure throw out close with the swim move but he was out. Did he get that bad of a jump for a throw that bounces on the grass still beat him to the bag that bad?

South Carolina and Vandy to close out the season is going to be one big come to Jesus moment. Our schedule has turned out to be pretty weak to this point.

The one legit contender we've played so far essentially run-ruled us twice. Feels good.
