No change in the D1 baseball poll. Still @ #5. Hard to overstate the importance of this weekend’s series against #16 Tenn

In place of Bolton we should be able to draw a name of any male in the crowd, under 45, who played high school baseball. He's so bad.

Relatedly, I pitch for my slow pitch softball team and I keep thinking DVH is gonna call me out of the stands one of these games.

Seriously. Normally the "I could do that" posts are cringe inducing and usually untrue realistically, but he legitimately screws up routine shite I was doing as a baseline playing the same position. It's so fricking hard to watch.

Watched DVH’s presser after game 3 of the Ole Miss series and he was asked about the left side of the infield.

He said it was set for weekends and basically intimated that there were no changes coming. He praised Cali’s development (deservedly so) but then raved about Bolton’s defense and said he won that job going away in the fall.

I'm glad Cali is hitting the ball now, but I still don't like him at a position like 3rd defensively. He looks like a fish out of water over there in comparison to Jones. I guess it's an easier pill to swallow if his offensive production starts to justify it, though.

Cali has the power to be an everyday player in the lineup. He's a bit too much of a true 3 outcome player for my taste, but he has been seeing the ball better lately and isn't pressing like he was early in the season. The other problem (or limitation) Diggs doesn't have the range, glove, or arm to be a position player, so DH is out of the question for Cali.

Conversely, I have no end of trouble trying to understand how we still keep giving Bolton at bats in SEC series. He's batting .190 on the season, but that doesn't tell the whole story since 13 of his 16 hits have come against midweek and early season non-conference opponents. He's managed just three hits in conference games this year. His current stat line for SEC games is 3-29 with 13 strikeouts, and he's 1 for his last 20 in SEC games.

That type of offensive futility is almost unheard of. I mean, the guy's almost to the Mendoza Line in slugging percentage.

Just because Bolton looked better in Fall Ball doesn't he should still be starting. That kind of stubbornness pisses me off to no end. There's no f'ing way he's our best SS. Coll, alone, would probably look better if he could the same amount of reps.

Watched it as well.

What I took away from it, we don't have another viable option right now.

Coll is only like 3-20 or something in SEC play too, that’s part of the issue. If he would perform when given the chance he’d get more shots.

I’ve said this in this thread, but we should try to move Stovall to SS and platoon Jones, Coll and Holt at 2B.

I agree that Coll has been just as bad at the plate as Bolton in his SEC AB’s, but he at least has some pop. Bolton can’t get the ball out of the infield.

I also don’t understand continually sitting Jones.

Fielding .953 with terrible range. Leads the team in errors.

Bolton’s fielding and hitting reminds me of the old John McKay quote “we didn't block, but we made up for it by not tackling.”

I’m not trying to defend or argue, but I remember Turner being thrown under the bus last year and he wound up being one of our most clutch players.

I may have to trust Dave’s judgment for now. But I never did get the Gregory decision unless it was for lead off walks…..

Meh, I’d need to see the receipts one that one.

Turner was our best hitter for the entirety of last year and the only guy in the lineup over .300 for a long stretch last year before we hit the postseason and guys like Lanzilli and Wallace climbed into the .300s.

Derek Ruscin’s dumbass threw him under the the bus, but it was more to do with Turner’s comments about social media negativity. I’m on record at the time as saying Ruscin’s comments about Turner were especially stupid because Turner was our best hitter.
